Brian3576 0 #1 May 23, 2006 i find it amazing that some women who did the JFTC are smokers How do they justify smoking and banging the drum for cancer research ? do they equate the possible cancer they are trying to give themselves and breast cancer as totally different things? Is one kind of cancer kind of ok to be trying to give yourself but another kind of cancer is terrible and worth raising funds for finding cures? how do the smokers look breast cancer victims in the eye? i know i'd feel a total twat being a smoker and then trying to raise money for cancer awareness and cures ! quade 4 #2 May 23, 2006 What was the last addiction you had that you tired to give up? I don't condone it, but I sure as hell understand the issue.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Unlike you, most people understand that smoking is an extremely tough habit to break. Should one be disallowed from participating in cancer research until they can successfully quit? . . =(_8^(1)
AggieDave 6 #4 May 23, 2006 What is it with drivers that can't obey all the traffic laws bitching about bad drivers? If you know anything about traffic law you'll realize that even "good" drivers break some sort of law in the transportation code every single time they drive.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." kelpdiver 2 #7 May 24, 2006 you can search the archives on this exact question. short answer - they're unrelated, and irrelevent. Do you refuse aid from the Hell's Angels (or group X) because they're not always nice people? Skydiving isn't exactly safe either. Another one of those Walk for the Cure events would have much lower risk to participants' lives.

rhys 0 #10 May 24, 2006 they don't know the cause of breast cancer but smoking is definately a cause of lung cancer. people choose to smoke but they don't choose to have breast cancer, maybe the research will help people find out if they are doing somthing to make them more succeptible to breast cancer. people can smoke if they want!"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

wmw999 2,588 #12 May 24, 2006 QuoteSo are you saying non-smokers never get lung cancer? Re-read the sentence -- he said it was A cause, not THE cause. And it's most likely a contributing factor, and not a cause, since not every smoker gets lung cancer. Some smokers get breast cancer, some don't. peregrinerose 0 #13 May 24, 2006 It's no different than people in the medical profession smoking, and quite a number do. If people want to make a difference socially, they need to live what they preach. I don't understand how that makes a difference from a financial/fundraising stance though. A bit hypocritical (like the docs who smoke), but so what? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
