Clinton and Bush, Sr. are Fairly Buddy Buddy

Recommended Posts

Since the Hurricane and the opening of the Clinton library, they seem to have become good friends. Especially since Hurricane Katrina and the opening of Clinton's presidential library. Both Bush, Sr. and Clinton were at the Tulane graduation. It seems like they are genuinely good friends.

It even seems like George Dubya is in on it. His quote of, "Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton" resonates with me. And both W and Bill Clinton seem to have plenty in common.

Which has me wondering about whether there will be any impact on that toward Hillary Clinton's POTUS run. She doesn't seem to be involved in this stuff. In fact, it seems pretty rare that she and Bill are together at these sightings.

I'm not wondering what is up. I know that political enemies can make great friends (considerng that my best friends are downright pinko - they are interesting and nice people, though fairly misguided). But Clinton seems to also be doing what he does best - bridge gaps. And I think that Clinton is honest about this.

I think it's great to see - mutual liking and respect. It happens to look like it can only occur when there is no need for grandstanding, though. Could it posit a change in American politics?

Former President Clinton is, in my opinion, not out to bridge gaps, he is out to salvage his legacy. Former President G.H.W. Bush, despite being only a one term President, has a fine, not terribly tarnished legacy.

The same could be argued for former President Clinton, however all the hub-bub over his impeachment, lying under oath, and the hollywood-style coverage over his sex life is a smear on his legacy. It's unavoidable. All that in light of proclaimed peacetime economic growth (albeit unstable) and world "peace" and freedom's expansion.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

Honestly, at this point I see them as two elderly men that have something in common (being president, not the cheating on your wife thing) who found that they have fun together due to an external event (fund raising for Katrina).

being retired, they no longer have to take their differences (past or present) personally. What would be the point? They instead can enjoy being members of a very exclusive club.

I doubt it has any relevence to Hillary Clinton's bid.

I seriously doubt that anything that Bill Clinton does has anything to do with Hillary anymore and visa-versa.

Uh, Clinton's age 59.
The older you get, the less elderly that seems.

That's ok, he looks 70.

I'm staring at the end of the barrel of 30 years old...atleast it feels like it having just turned 26 this year.:D

>Former President Clinton is, in my opinion, not out to bridge

A democrat might reply that Bush is trying to not be a forgotten one-term president by allying himself with a charismatic one.

But I think the underlying reality is that both former presidents are good people with no one to answer to any more, and so are pooling their talents for good causes. People determined to hate either one will continue to do so; they are not worth the (futile) effort to try to change their minds.

As a totally non-partisan observer, I totally agree. I'm also thinking of Jimmy Carter and his contribution to good causes. While he was out here for the 'Habitat for Humanity' project, there was never any hint of politics, right, left or upside down. He simply wanted to help, and if using his status as former President contributed, cool!

'Bush-Clinton'... does have a funny ring to it but, I tend to agree with some of the others who said, they are just using their 'titles' to promote some good in this country. I don't believe, there is any political motivation... why would they. Cool for them. Politically, the idea makes as much sense as Bob Dole advertising an erection enhancer.
Good for Clinton and Bush!

Nah, Bob Dole simply misunderstood. See, back when he ran for President, he visited Japan, where someone told him, “we wish you good ruck on erection.” Apparently, he took it to heart. The rest, as they say, is history.

that was very insensitive (to either asians or Bob Dole or that guy "Bob" in those commercials - I can't tell which, maybe all of them), \

you should take a "cultural diversity" class at your local college

apparently it's very enlightening - you get to right papers

your choice - be known for throwing up while eating unusual cuisine. Or for having erectile dysfunction.

I'd take GB's reputation given those two choices..... But as I get older maybe I'll change my mind

Whaoa! I wasn't trying to ruffle any feathers here. Sure, I think I'd puke too, eating 'unusual cuisine'. I don't really know if Mr. Dole has 'erectile dysfunction or not. I was just making reference to the 'field day' the media had with Mr. Bush's visit to Japan.

Uhhhh, no. I see Sr and Clinton as close to teh same, always have, but Jr? No way. Sr started NAFTA, Clinton signed it. There are other similarities, can't think of em now.

So how is it that Hillary would beneify from Bill anyway? And being disinfranchised will hurt Hillary how?

Excuse me for a sec...... Bahahahahahahahahahahahahaahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahhah...

OK, I'm better now :P. Uh, even after being impeached, he still had an approval of over 50%, while Bush can't even muster 30%. He had the best economy in 40 years, maybe more depending upon how you look at it. He stopped the bleeding of the debt and left a surplus (annual), then Bush threw it all away and exceeded Regaan's fiscal fiasco. I'm not sure what part of his legacy he is rebuilding, perhaps you can help.

You're a 26%er, so you're going to say that, but the average opinion is that Bush Sr was a trainwreck. He is the only military hero of the last 4 presidents, so that is admirable, Reagan an actor/politician, Jr and Clinton draft dodgers, but his inherited economy and tax increase was murder for him. I think if he were not attached to Reagan he might have been a better pres.

So to a moralist would think Clinton has a poor legacy, but everyone else loves him.

Uh, "proclaimed peacetime economic growth" meaning most prolific economy ever. Go ahead and write it - it hurts I know.

And how unstable? He inherited crap and constantly turned it into gold, when unstable? That is insane!!! Call him a womanizer, but having an unstable economy? That's a first.
