Americans Think Their Calls are Being Recorded

Recommended Posts

Quote

Apparently you have very little knowledge of law if you think a SCOTUS means nothing unless it's taken to court and ruled on. The SCOTUS I cited is the ruling.

unless the case is different off course. A SCOTUS ruling on the legality of terminating mice has nothing to do with a death row case. So, the SCOTUS ruling has to be relevant. In this case there could well be enough questions.

Who requested what information? WTF are you talking about?

Who requested the call information from AT&T? According to the US Code it has to be the FBI. Was it in this case?

>Hey, all we get from the left anymore is thinly veiled PA's, comparisons to
>Hitler, how stupid people who voted for Bush are etc.

And from the right we get phrases like "the loony libs" "why do they hate america" "media whore!" etc. (To their credit, several of them are now admitting they made a mistake voting for Bush.)

>No arguments, no suggestions on how US Security could be improved.

There have been hundreds of such suggestions. The right wing treats them thusly:

1) Quashes them in Congress; easy for the majority party to do.
2) Ridicules them.
3) Says they never made them.

No one's buying it any more. The net makes it too easy to see through the party line.

Perhaps you can give me an example other than "lets cut and run in Iraq".

So it's OK for Bush's daddy to cut-n-run after stirring the pot and angering OBL, then blame Clinton for any acts against us? Basically, if you're picking a war somewhere, anywhere, you're ok with the right, but if you choose to avoid war you're a coward.

Again, Bush sr cut-n-ran.....why ok for him to do it?

Advocating some sort of crackdown on media freedom is the scariest and most irresponsible thing I have seen posted in SC to date. There are a few, very small steps between a fearful, controlled, or intimidated media and a totalitarian state.

I can't even begin to get into this thread. I'll just say that I agree with your above statement. These folks are bad. They assume massive executive power, they won't allow any checks and balances, and if you question them then you get attacked. There is no transparency. Everything has been reduced to "I can't tell you, just trust us. It's for your own good". These are troublesome times.

Ahhhh, reminds me of the US' first impeachment, Andrew Johnson, who was impeached for usurpation of power, amongst other things. The right has changed protocol through through the decades, but this has never changed.

>Perhaps you can give me an example other than "lets cut and run in Iraq".

Biden is currently proposing a division of Iraq into three autonomous regions to cut down on secterian violence.

2005 - Kerry proposed a clear timetable for transfer of authority to the Iraq government as Iraqi troops took over.

2005 - Reid proposed a three-part plan for victory in Iraq - transition to full sovereignty, a pledge to the Iraqi people to leave, and a firm schedule of timetables and progress reports.

2005 - Albright proposed a 50 percent increase in federal spending on homeland security, the creation of a domestic intelligence agency, and a Cabinet-level ranking for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

If you can't trust your own government, who, then, may I ask, can you trust?

Is there someting you would like to share with everybody here about your illegal activities? Let's test the system to see if an episode of Cops will be filmed at your house.

If they did come by they might not like the reception they get from their bosses, after being interrupted whilst having coffee at a friends house.

ahuh, yes of course; "coffee"

Gravitymaster,

May I throw you a query and see if you can find or know the answer.

Who (which Senator) Authored, offered and got passed legislation that FORCED the telecomes to include in thier hardware and/or software, devices that allow the kind of data tracking and/or listening of calls that is making the libs and media foam at the mouth today?? :o

The answer is priceless!!!

it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

Funny, but not the point. Nobody is mad about the fact that the telecom companies can do this.

But then again you are not really interested in actually debating the issue it seems....

I provided plenty of rebuttals and back up including SCOTUS decisions and US Code.

Quote

Except that that SCTUS decision and the portion of the US Code you cited leave plenty important questions unanswered. To the point where they really don't mean anything unless taken to court and ruled on. You always seem to conveniently ignore that part.

Apparently you have very little knowledge of law if you think a SCOTUS means nothing unless it's taken to court and ruled on. The SCOTUS I cited is the ruling. Why do you think a part of the U.S. Code is invalid. Unless there is a reason to believe it's unconstitutional, there's no reason to have a judicial review. Please point me to your legal source where you got these ideas from.

Here is one for you, since you have all the proof. Who requested the information?

I know this doen't matter to you but

Plame arranged her husbands trip

Plame was not a covert agent so she was not outed

Wilson lied through his teeth as even the agenda driven 911 commision said Wilson misrepresented the information he himself had gathered.

I know that facts are a bothersome distraction to you over this subject.....

Facts, eh? Where's your proof?

Oh, wait, Limbaugh must have said it, and it is therefore a fact.:P

Fact: Libby indicted for one count of obstruction of justice, two counts of perjury, and
two counts of making false statements.

What's he covering up, hmmm? Libby took the fall to protect Rove, Cheney, et. al.

The funny thing is, I can admit when politicians I have supported has done something wrong, but you Bushies would prefer to go down with the ship.

Well, be my guest.

Let me guess, you get all your information from numerous sources. Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly AND Savage.

Everything I said has been documented.

You say Libby took the fall. And you ask me if I have proof:D

Please don't let me distort your world view. That would be way to tramatic.

By the way, Fitzgerald has said the Plame was not outed. Libby has been charged with a process crime not related to the supposed "outing"

And you say the Bushies are going down with the ship. what a hoot......

That's because they are being recorded, at least some of them. I would not be surprised to learn that close to that portion of adults had been recorded by some government agency or another at some point in their lives.

Got pulled in for grilling once when the cops were investigating a person on the fringe of one of my groups of friends at college. This was a small-time coke dealer, and they had a big photo album with pictures of everybody this guy hung out with even marginally. I'm sure his telephone was tapped also. If they go that far for a guy selling bits of pot and coke, I easily believe they would go overboard (as they should) to keep tabs on terrorism.

If you do not want to be recorded, stay off the telephone. More and more companies record all calls in to their organization now, and the threshold for size of companies doing it is moving down very steadily. Even private parties are beginning to get into the act. It's getting cheaper all the time and is far less regulated than most people think.

The crimes Libby is charged with were meant to hinder the investigation, and cloud the truth. Or, as Fitzgerald said "It's like kicking sand in the face of the umpire."

If there was no cover-up, why is Scooter Lying?

In the end, you will lose. So, enjoy Bush's current status as the "Teflon Don" (remember Slick Willie?) but be ready when Humpty Dumpty has his great fall.
