Presidental Address Monday, May 15, 2006 8pm EDT

Recommended Posts

Can't say for sure.

Would be ironic considering that as far as the main topic is concerned he hasn't done -any- work so far.

How many years have gone by since 9/11?

One thing is for certain, he's planning on using the National Guard.

Well, think about the photo ops. GWB wearing a National Guard uniform, riding a Humvee with a cadre of hardworking US troops protecting our borders from the hordes of illegals . . . heck, that might top the jet pilot thing.

Well, now hold on there a second Bill. GWB actually -did- fly in the National Guard (though obviously he didn't make the carrier landing).

Funny you should mention photo ops since my understanding is that this is the main mission the National Guard will be tasked with. That is to say, surveillance.

Ok, so far I like what I'm hearing.

6,000 additional Border Patrol Agents by 2008.
6,000 National Guard Troops as a -temporary- stop gap for 1 year while Border Patrol ramps up.
End "Catch and Release" program.
Program to have current illegals have a path to citizenship; fines and work.
Guest worker program.

Lots of filler and what the hell has taken so long (what year is it again?), but I can't say I disagree with this program.

There, I said it, I agree with GWB on this.

BTW, I listened to this via KCRW National Public Radio and the internet.

I agree with what you said. I wanted to hear more details on what would happen to an employer who knowingly hires illegals. What will the fines be?

I would also like to hear what happens when an illegal is caught a 2nd time. Do they get jail? Do they lose the ability to become a citizen or to participate in a guest worker program?

Good Lord. I'm gonna grab my GOOD bag, and run for the hills...the world has apparently entered a different dimension, and I just don't know what else to do! ;);) (LOL, teasing you, Quade.)

Actually, Quade, you are similar in some of your positions to those that I hold, so I'm not surprised. Now if BillV comes along and says good things, I just don't know what to do but be skeered...wery, wery skeered...(again, joking...).

As for me, I like what I heard, but like GM said, I would like to know what sort of laws would be implementing to enforce the hiring of illegals. That, imo, would be what gives that new position a bit of a bite.

We'll see...but it's a good start. For trying to slice it down the middle, he didn't do a bad job at all.

Well, now don't be -too- shocked that I agree with GWB on this.

Afterall, it's kind of an obvious answer to the basic issues. I still can't figure out why this wasn't implemented on say . . . 9/12/2001.

I also agreed with GWB when he initially decided to go after OBL (then again, that too was kinda freekin' obvious). ;)

Where we diverged from agreement was in his deviation from this initial goal.

I wanted to hear those things, also. What is strange is, laws covering the areas you mentioned have been in the U.S. Immigration and Nationality laws for over 36-yrs! Tha sad part is, they quit enforcing them due to pressure from lobbyists and the passage of such laws as 'catch and release', where a 'promise to appear' summons is issued to an illegal and then let go. Yeah, right! Like that's going to be honored.
They;ve been graduating new Border Patrol Trainees on a weekly basis. Out of a class of, let's say 100 in a class maybe, 1/3 graduate. After entering on duty to their assigned stations, more leave. With that in mind, I see why, W. is assigning troops to the border. I doubt, little if anything will be done in regard to fining employers.

"I still can't figure out why this wasn't implemented on say . . . 9/12/2001."_______________________________________He's doing it now because of his (GOP) low rating. Trying to help shore up (save) the Nov. elections. He did read the teleprompter pretty good this time tho. Karl's speech writers made it easy for him I reckon. He's still a lame POS MORON as far as I'm concerned

For the same reason it wasn't implemented 15 years ago.

Kinda weird that you are agreeing with Bush and I'm being critical, huh? ;)

He definitely is a lame-ass moron who can't be cured and most definitely has to be endured!!

I understand how he got the republican nomination in 2000 - his daddy bought it for him. Then he was assigned to us by the supreme court ,essentially, after all the hanging chads business.

But what I really don't understand is how he got elected by this country for a second term - and I've pretty much voted republican since I cast my first vote for Reagan! Heck, I voted for his dad!!

But Jr. was/is so clearly not equal to the task.

The only thing I can figure is between the people who are afraid of Osama, and the people who are anti-abortion and who think that is the only issue they care about (and I am not pro-abortion per se, but I know it's not the only issue to consider), the knucklehead still flies around in Air Force One.

Sweet baby Jesus give me the grace to endure!

I did see a funny billboard that said "Will somebody please give him a blow-job already so he can be impeached!":o:ph34r::ph34r::ph34r:
"...I've learned that while the "needs" in life are important (food, water, shelter), it's the "wants" in life (ice cream, chocolate, sex) that make it worth the effort." Kbordson

Nice... now make sure you check all those off your "Democratic talking points" sheet, m'kay?

You did forget the "selected not elected" and "nobody died when Clinton lied" ones, however.

m'kay.. more apologys for your little Bushie. Can he do ANY wrong in your eyes???

Where am I making apologies? I'm merely popping a few more bubbles, since people seem to think there's some sort of difference between the two main parties.

Oh, that's right, I forgot the point that "not hating the Republicans and everything they do" = "apologizing".

So, since you're "moderate", I'm sure you'll fill us in on a list of things that the current administration has done right?

They went to Afghanistan to go after the people responsible for 9/11.
They got the whole world behind us for a little while to help on the war on terror.

They are doing a half assed job which is more of a smoke screen with immigration but its a start in the right direction.

Beyond that the incompetence is pretty much all they can do.. since they even fucked up their above success.

AS a moderate.. I find it appalling there are still so many of you right wingers who will do anything and say anything to shore up your little Shrub.. no matter how much of a disgrace he is to our country in the eyes of the whole world.

I guess the media in the WHOLE WORLD is a bunch of leftists right?

Seems when I read sources from pretty much all over... its certainly the consensus. It really gets old seeing your country trashed on a daily basis in the world press......kinda like your country used to get when aparteid was the law of your land.

edited to add a few links just for all you link freaks that want proof of every fucking thing in the world.

Facts and References About President George Bush:

I have at least one conviction for drunk driving in Maine. My Texas driving record has been erased and is not available.

I was AWOL from the National Guard.

I refuse to take a drug test or even answer any questions about drug use.

All records of my tenure as Governor of Texas are now in my father's library, sealed, and unavailable for public view.

All records of SEC investigations into insider trading or bankrupt companies are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view.

All records or minutes from meetings that I, or my Vice-President, attended regarding public energy policy are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public review.

President Bush's Accomplishments

I attacked and overtook two countries.

I spent the U.S. surplus and effectively bankrupted the U.S. Treasury.

I shattered the record for the largest annual deficit in U.S. history.

I set an economic record for most private bankruptcies filed in any 12-month period.

I set the all-time record for the biggest drop in the history of the U.S. stock market.

My record for environmental issues is the least of my concerns.

I am the first president in U.S. history to enter office with a criminal record.

I set the the all-time record for most days on vacation in any one year period.

After taking-off the entire month of August, I then presided over the worst security failure in U.S. history.

I am supporting development of a "Tactical Bunker Buster" nuke, a WMD.

I am getting our troops killed, under the lie of Sadam's procurement of Yellow Cake Nuke WMD components, then blaming the lie on our British friends.

I set the record for most campaign fund-raising trips by a U.S. president.

In my first year in office over 2-million Americans lost their jobs and that trend continues every month.

I set the all-time record for most foreclosures in a 12-month period.

I appointed more convicted criminals to administration than any president in U.S. history.

I set the record for smallest number of press conferences of any president since the advent of television.

I signed more laws and executive orders effectively amending or ignoring the Constitution than any president in history.

I presided over the biggest energy crisis in U.S. history and refused to intervene when corruption involving the oil industry was revealed.

I presided over the highest gasoline prices in U.S. history and refused to use national reserves as past presidents have done.

I have cut health care benefits for war veterans and support a cut in duty benefits for active duty troops and their families -- in war time.

I have set the all-time record for most people worldwide to simultaneously protest me in public venues (15 million people) shattering the record for protest against any person in the history of mankind.

I've dissolved more international treaties than any president in U.S. history.

I've made my presidency the most secretive and unaccountable of any in U.S.. history.

I'm proud that the members of my cabinet are the richest of any administration in U.S. history.

My "poorest millionaire," Condoleeza Rice, has a Chevron oil tanker named after her.

I am the first president in U.S. history to have almost all 50 states of the Union simultaneously suffer massive financial crisis.

I presided over the biggest corporate stock market fraud of any market in any country in history.

I am the first president in U.S. history to order a pre-emptive attack and the military occupation of a sovereign nation, and I did so against the will of the United Nations and the world community.

I created the largest government department bureaucracy in the history of the United States.

I set the all-time record for biggest annual budget spending increases, more than any president in history.

I am the first president in U.S. history to have the United Nations remove the U.S. from the Human Rights Commission.

I am the first president in U.S. history to have the United Nations remove the U.S. from the Elections Monitoring Board.

I removed more checks and balances, and have the least amount of congressional oversight than any presidential administration in U.S. history.

I rendered the entire United Nations viewpoints irrelevant. I withdrew the U.S. from the World Court of Law.

I refused to allow inspectors access to U.S. "prisoners of war" (detainees) and thereby have refused to abide by the Geneva Convention.

I am the first president in history to refuse United Nations election inspectors (during the 2002 U.S. election).

I am the all-time U.S. and world record-holder for receiving the most corporate campaign donations.

My largest lifetime campaign contributor, and one of my best friends, (Kenneth Lay, former CEO of Enron Corporation) presided over the largest corporate bankruptcy fraud in U.S. history. My political party used the Enron private jets and corporate attorneys to assure my success with the U.S. Supreme Court during my election decision.

I have spent more money on polls and focus groups than any president in U.S. history.

I garnered the most sympathy for the U.S. after the World Trade Center attacks and less than a year later made the U.S. the most resented country in the World, possibly the largest failure of diplomacy in World history.

I am actively working on a policy of "disengagement" creating the most hostile of Israel-Palestine relations in at least 30 years.

I am first president in history to have a majority of Europeans (71%) view my presidency as the biggest threat to world peace and security.

I am the first U.S. president in history to have the people of South Korea more threatened by the U.S. than by their immediate neighbor, North Korea.

I changed the U.S. policy to allow convicted criminals to be awarded government contracts.

I set an all-time record for the number of administration appointees who violated U.S. law by not selling their huge personal investments in corporations bidding for U.S. contracts.

I failed to fulfill my pledge to capture Osama Bin Laden, dead or alive.

I failed to capture the anthrax killer who tried to murder the leaders of our country at the U.S. Capitol Building. Even after 18 months I have no leads and no credible suspects.

In the past 18 months following the World Trade Center attack I have successfully prevented any public investigation into the biggest security failure in the history of the United States.

I removed more freedoms and civil liberties for Americans than any president in U.S. history.

In a little over two years, I created the most divided country in decades, possibly the most divided since the Civil War.

I entered my office with the strongest economy in U.S. history and have turned every single economic category downward -- all in less than two years.

And this was only as of 2004

Well, if these sources are the (American) links you provided, I am not surprised.

I read at least two local newspapers every day. In addition to local news programs, I also watch at least one of Sky's or BBC's news casts every day. I see factual, unbiased reporting - pretty much as reflected by the views and opinions of the more reasonable folk on this forum.

Ah yes.. those would be his several apologists that think he can do no wrong and get their FAIR AND BALANCED talking points every day from our very own American version of Pravda.

Here are some others..

http://people-press.org/reports/display.php3?ReportID=175

Anti-war sentiment and disapproval of President Bush's international policies continue to erode America's image among the publics of its allies. U.S. favorability ratings have plummeted in the past six months in countries actively opposing war France, Germany and Russia as well as in countries that are part of the "coalition of the willing." In Great Britain, favorable views of the U.S. have declined from 75% to 48% since mid-2002.

In Poland, positive views of the U.S. have fallen to 50% from nearly 80% six months ago; in Italy, the proportion of respondents holding favorable views of the United States has declined by half over the same period (from 70% to 34%). In Spain, fewer than one-in-five (14%) have a favorable opinion of the United States. Views of the U.S. in Russia, which had taken a dramatically positive turn after Sept. 11, 2001, are now more negative than they were prior to the terrorist attacks.

Among possible coalition countries, majorities oppose joining the U.S. to take action against Iraq to end Saddam Hussein's rule. Even in Great Britain, a 51% majority opposes war. Among the unwilling allies, there is also virtually no potential support for a U.S.- led military effort

Why Erroll my dear.. havent you heard.... even our illustrious president who has divided our country so effectively said.... " You are either with us or you are against us"

All dissent is against him. There is no middle ground in this country anymore.

So I guess you fall in with the Far Right.:S
