christelsabine 1 #26 May 9, 2006 Quote>Pics like that were shown many times. Like another poster said, >it simply is propaganda. Yep. I recall that when Michael Moore showed similar footage taken in pre-invasion Iraq (kids playing and whatnot) pro-war conservatives screamed bloody murder. "Propaganda! Lies! Making an emotional appeal with misleading pictures!" MM is a biz man. He used what he's got at hands. Nevertheless, propanda in every war time was/is a huge tool. Brian3576 0 #27 May 9, 2006 i know those pictures are propagander, i just wanted to say that i don't think all soldiers are bad... the way the media reports sometimes makes me want to puke. I'm tired of hearing about how the coalition soldiers are doing "this, that and the other" wrong. It's war for gods sake, shit happens. I wish the media would get off their back and stop the witch hunts for every soldier who doesn't play by the rule book. i heard today that the soldier who got caught on film shooting dead that Iraqi in faluja got sent back home or something? would people rather have seen him give the guy on the floor the benifit of the doubt and then end up getting blown to pieces because the Iraqi as boobi-trapped? i know i'd rather the soldier got out of there alive than the iraqi
jeiber 0 #28 May 9, 2006 QuoteWell... Job done. Hussein & the Ba'Athists are toppled. Towns & cities are under control of an elected council. National elections have been held. The core of a new Iraqi police & military have been trained in neighbouring countries.... Are you serious?!?! Even the most hard core democrats agree that a sudden withdrawl would throw the country into chaos and civil war. Sorry, this one isn't even worth debating.... JeffShhh... you hear that sound? rehmwa 2 #31 May 9, 2006 QuoteDude who cares if the pictures are staged or not. If they are staged, then that's a problem. If they are true, whether hand picked or not, then it's not a problem. Simple enough. OH MY GOODNESS, someone handpicked a few pictures - the world is ending. C'mon, the public isn't that simple minded. My issue is the simple minded response that a few positive pictures are this incredible insult to those that oppose the war on 'political' principles. My issue is the simple minded response that a few negative pictures are this incredible insult to those that support the war on 'political' principles. If neither side can handle true pictures telling the WHOLE story (positive and negative) then both sides should just admit that they are really about some political agenda and don't care about truth, the American People, the Iraqi people, and the rest of those in the war for serious personal reasons. (Screw the politicians) I have no issues with showing both the bad and the good. I expect to collect both, but they'll be batched by the agenda of the presenters. So what? I'm a big boy and can assess all the samples. I have a big issue with those that only want to restrict the pictures to SOLELY either good or bad. Quote“ hey we started a war with a lie and many have died but fuck I guess it’s worth it. I mean just look how cute that cat is” This is exactly the kind of nonsensical response I object to. If someone wants to restrict the free speech of publishing positive images, then they can't say they aren't actively trying to demonize the soldiers in addition to the leadership. ... christelsabine 1 #32 May 9, 2006 Invade. Destroy. Re-build. This exactly is the way it's been done. Details, like pics, are not that important and only will be used by each side for advertisement reasons. jlmiracle 7 #33 May 9, 2006 QuoteQuote But making topic off-limits is also no good. The Phelps family is disgusting. I hope they die off. But to rob them of the ability to show the world how disgusting they are is also wrong. Ok, that two references to Phelps. What's the deal with them? Fred Phelps has a Baptist church in Kansas. He and His show up at soldiers funerals and "protest". They hold up signs that say "thank God for 9/11". "God hates fags". (he thinks we are at war cause God is mad at us because homosexuals live in the US. He is a troop hater. Look further down in this forum for the thread about thank god for 9/11. There is a video of one of his freaky followers (also his daughter, I believe).Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. Because when an Iraqi hears that his father/brother/friend was tortured to death by the americans, ...... *** Okay, Bill would you please confirm the torture and killing of an Iraqi by AMERICANS. I mean a creditable case. Not degrading pictures "tortured to death". One that we captured and then "tortured to death" Maybe I missed something in the news. Or perhaps you were just trying to make a point. miked10270 0 #35 May 9, 2006 QuoteAre you serious?!?! Even the most hard core democrats agree that a sudden withdrawl would throw the country into chaos and civil war... Yes. Absolutely. In fact RUSI did a report to the effect that toppling Saddam Hussein would destroy Iraq. A civil war splitting the country into three which would make Yugoslavia look like a toddlers tea party! THAT report came out back in 1990! And lo... Having toppled Saddam Hussein, the country has descended into civil war! WHY are our troops sitting in the middle of such a war. WHY are we building permanent bases there? Are the Coalition troops some sort of professional Resident-Aunt-Sallys? Our troops certainly aren't going to prevent the inevitable civil war there. All that'll happen is that our troops get shot at and blamed! WHY THE FECK aren't we withdrawing to Saudi & Kuwait... Or ANY bit of MMFD where we DON'T get shot at!!? Mike. Darius11 12 #41 May 9, 2006 Let me ask you one thing Do you think so far more positive or negative results have come from this war? I feel it is very unbalanced and most is negative. That’s why when anyone tries to put a positive spine on the war specially with things that in reality are meaningless or very small compared to the negative out comes so far. It makes want to slap them. I look at it as the equivalent of me shooting there child then saying oh well at least I didn’t spill blood on the good part of your rug. Do you get my point? The only thing that will change my mind is a positive event that is big enough to tip the scalesI'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain

How to win friends in Iraq ahh right, do you think the American troops who dished out humilliation are just as bad as the insurgents who plant road side bombs and kill innocents with suicide bombs? is there any difference between the actions of the Americans and the insurgents to you?
