Letter to Senator Frist - Illegals aren't Immigrants

I have hired illegal immigrants to push my car. They're plentiful and cheaper than buying gas.

I just vomited in horror and delight at that comment.

On May 1st, as a result of the Mexican boycott,

national retailers reported 4.2% lower sales for the

day, with a 67.8% reduction in shoplifting....

My commute that day took only 20 minutes instead of the usual 60;

I had to go the Emergency Room, got to see the doctor in 30 minutes, instead of the usual 4 hours;

At breakfast, the water came in a clean glass;

Went to a fast-food “restaurant” for lunch, I understood the person who took my order;

There were fewer arrests, less people showed-up for court;

There were less traffic accidents, and no accidents involving un-insured motorists.

Yeah, we realize how much these un-invited, temporary, illegal, undocumented, poaching, imposing, bellyaching, fly-the-American-flag-upside-down guests contribute to our society!

You could add "crucify US farmers" and "cut the legs off US workers" for good measure, and pretty soon you'd have a great article to post on a blog somewhere.

Billvon you being pro-"guest" worker I have a question to shoot past you.
What of the "guest workers" in about 20 years when they have worked thier way into the American culture and start to refuse the jobs that we needed them to fill in the first place as thier justification for getting citizenship? Certainly they are not going to be paid next to nothing forever.
It is crazy to think that this is any more than a very very temp bandaid on a substantially problem. What about in 30-40 year when we have these millions of extra people drawing social benifits.
I can see this as good in the very very short term but what about some long term effects?

If they don't have their citizenship yet? Then they don't get the H-2A visa and they have to leave.

If they have their citizenship? Then they might post on DZ.com and complain how the illegal immigrants are taking their jobs and driving down wages. Perhaps they will even lobby for higher minimum wages, or (if they are making more money) for lower income taxes and more benefits for themselves. In other words, they will have become americans.

>What about in 30-40 year when we have these millions of extra

They will form the new american society, just as my grandparents came from Ireland, Italy and Austria to form today's society. Some will be lazy, some will be hard workers. Just like today - and we seem to be surviving.

Sure, you can try to keep out the rifraff. But a strong attempt to do that might well also keep out the Albert Einsteins, the Mikhail Baryshnikovs, the Irving Berlins, the Hyman Rickovers. (If that last name isn't familiar to you - he's the reason we have nuclear powered submarines and aircraft carriers.) A program that lets people in who want to work, and a border patrol that keeps people out who don't, seems like a good compromise.

You bet, I've heard of Hyman Rickover! He was a Rear Admiral in the U.S. Navy, was in service during WW-II and was later, in charge of development of nuclear power for naval ships and submarines. He was also a sub-mariner. The U.S.S. Nautilus, was the first in the series of nuclear subs.

some of us might even have served in his organization. Lots of great stories about Adm (4 stars before he retired, he was a captain when he started the nuke stuff, he was also dep dir for both DoN and DoE BTW) Rickover. The man was 'quirky' and great and a real asshole sometimes and likely the REAL person mostly responsible for the end (winning) of the Cold War. I have several quotes of his in my office.

I thought, he was a Rear Admiral. 4-stars works!

You hit 1 and 2 stars (Rear Admiral Lower and Upper half) on the way to 4 stars from Captain. So he was a rear admiral as some period of his career.

Well, that straightened it out for me. I appreciate that! I am (obviously) not well versed on Naval/Military ranks. What you said clarified it for me.
