"With" or "Against"

Recommended Posts

someone pointed out my signature quote was 'wrong', and they are correct i did not quote Life of Brian correctly. But that wasnt the point. I typed it as I recalled it which in turn reveals something about its meaning to me.

so then the question is:

Do you struggle With reality? Against reality?

or have you learned there is no struggle at all......

Mostly it's a struggle For reality.

Many people don't like to deal with it and/or create their own.

If only the world would do what I say.... ... ...:P:D
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

"With" could imply an on again, off again, love/hate relationship. Or one that grows despite the differences. Even allowing for a fondness for the differences and so with the struggle."Against" seems to define a permanent, unrelenting, omni- and ever present foe. One to calculate and manipulate against. Either way there's the underlying sense that it's all always competitive and either/or as opposd to cooperative and inclusive. Even when we have struggles to face, they can be seen as beneficial rather than adversarial. Your struggle 'with' reality is the more cooperative form. You must be half expecting to strike up a deal occasionaly. You probably expect reality to be around no matter what you do to it. An implication in 'against' is that it could suggest a winable solution for only one side of the competition. You or reality. Survivors that we are, we'll die trying to beat reality down, I suppose. So what do you think it reveals about its meaning to you?

They're both the same, and I've yet to meet one person who doesn't....

not even close.. (see below for one description of the difference, if that doesnt do it for you try a dictionary)

and how exactly do YOU determine what SOMEONE else 'struggles' with??

Or according to Seth in "Seth Speaks" we all create our own reality, good or bad and when we are close to someone our combined realities overlap and react with each other.....

Ok- I'll give it a shot..

Reality- I'm not going to write the entire definition, but here you go...

The quality or state of being real. A real event, entity, or state of affairs. The totality of real things or events. Something that is neither derivative nor dependent but exists necessarily.

With- In opposition to: Against

Against- in opposition or hostility to.

I never determined specifically what someone struggles with. My intent was a blanket statement that we all struggle with something, and if we struggle with it, it's our reality. WITH/ AGAINST can be synonymous.

Perhaps there are those who never struggle with anything, but I've yet to meet them. So yes, I could be wrong. Something that I DO NOT struggle with being.

The way I looked at your statement, was different than the way you intended it to be looked at.
