Poll: Fox Most Trusted News Source in U.S.

Recommended Posts

Oww, this has got to hurt!;) And I found it on NewsMax:o reprinted from the BBC and Reuters.

I wonder why I have not seen this on ABC, CBS, NPR, CNN ect ect ect

Gotta love it:D

The Fox News Channel is the most trusted news source in America, according to a new poll released by the BBC and Reuters that surveyed 10,000 news consumers around the world.

Asked which news source they most trusted, 11 percent of Americans named Fox News - more than any other news source in the U.S.

Fox News led the broadcast networks by substantial margins, with ABC coming in at 4 percent, NBC - 4 percent and CBS - 3 percent.

In less crowded news markets, percentages were higher. 32 percent of Britons, for instance, named the the BBC, while 59 percent of Egyptians named Al Jazeera.

The most trusted news networks on a global basis were the BBC, and CNN, the Reuters/BBC poll found.

"National TV is still the most trusted news source by a wide margin, although the Internet is gaining ground among the young," said Doug Miller, president of London-based research firm GlobeScan, which conducted the polling.

More than 1,000 people were surveyed in March and April in each of the United Kingdom, United States, Brazil, Egypt, Germany, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, Russia and South Korea.

11 percent

Only those with a very weak grasp of statistics could consider 11% a meaningful "win".

It must really chap the Liberal's asses that all the other "mainstream" media couldn't even pull THAT much...

Can you say "splitting the vote"? *sigh*... I feel like a kindergarten teacher sometimes.

And I just know someone's going to take my spitting on this silly poll and sillier interpretation as confirmation that I hold some ideology or other. Go ahead if you must, but only at risk of being stupidly wrong. That risk doesn't seem to bother a lot of people here.

But to those who would prefer to be correct (few though you may be,) my only ideology is that lousy reasoning is revolting. There's a lot of it going around...

this is a really a trivial calculation. Here a basic illustration:

if you have one aberrant choice that caters to a similarly aberrant
10% portion of a population, and you have 90 mainstream choices
that cater to the other 90% mainstream portions of a population,
then the abberant will be expected to get 10% of the votes and
any mainstream choice will get in average 1% of the votes.

Nevertheless it is 10:90 for abberant vs mainstream votes

Really? The BBC and CNN look pretty good if you quit being so parochial.

In terms of numbers and the question, 11 percent ain't bad.

This was not where 11 percent answered, "Do you believe that Fox News is trustworthy?" It's not like only 11 percent find it trustworthy, but 11 percent find it the MOST trustworthy. Considering that it almost tripled the others, it says SOMETHING.

Like it or not, they are ahead of everyone else, which says something about either the organization or the public. Probably both.

Ah, yes.. more from the 'party of tolerance' (see bolding)...and right on time, too...

Here's a bit from the commentary about the poll you may have missed:

***Asked to name the news source they most trusted, without any prompting, 59 percent of Egyptians said Al Jazeera, 52 percent of Brazilians said Rede Globo, 32 percent of Britons said the BBC, 22 percent of Germans said ARD and 11 percent of Americans said Fox News, each leading their respective nations.

So looks like out of all the Americans that they spoke with, 11% trusted Fox more than the "mainstream" (i.e., Liberal) media. So, with your incredible powers of calculation, what sort of % did the "mainstream" media get?

Was there a particular part of "most trusted source in U.S." that you didn't understand? *hint: look at the thread title, it's right there*

No, not really. Read my comment above about "splitting the vote" and crwtom's more detailed explanation.

Here's a simpler illustration:

In a population where 60% prefer chocolate and 40% prefer strawberry, run a poll with the following three choices:

A) Milk chocolate
B) Dark chocolate
C) Strawberry

You'll find that strawberry comes out the winner. Woo hoo for the strawberries.

Show me in the article where it says they provided choices....

It didn't - as a matter of fact, the article says "without prompting"....

No, I don't feel like bantering with you. I was responding to lawrocket who isn't just here to shoot people down.

I suspect he already sees how my point applies and you never will.

The fact is that your point doesn't apply - the respondents weren't given a list to choose from, they were asked what news network they trusted most.
