Oil - Mineral rights and Ownership

If the oil in Iraq belongs to the Iraqi people, as the administration has said many times, shouldn't the oil in the USA belong to the American people?

If so, why did we sell the rights to companies that ship it overseas? They are stealing our oil! They should sell off a small portion to pay for drilling and transport, and we should get the rest.

After all, it belongs to us.

I assume you own a car. Do you think you should have the right to sell it? Would you be happy with a government that told you you could never sell it or otherwise get rid of it, since it was yours to start with?

In Islamic countries there is something called a “baytol mal” Witch basically means money for the people.
In countries that are under Islamic rule the country and its citizens own the natural resources and every one should get there equal share. (I have yet to see an Islamic government who does this as it should be)

I guess what it comes down to is that I have a bit of a problem with the idea of land ownership. The idea that someone owns 1000 acres because their grandaddy's grandaddy's grandad bought it a few centuries ago from some government entity seems ludicrous.

We are all equally entitled to a share of the earth. I know that is a bit unrealisitic, yes. But philosophically, it makes sense to me.

Well since you want me to share you can come out and pick up rocks on about 100 acres next week. After that you can put in drain tile, clean ditches, trim trees, mow the road sides and then this September come up with your share of the school tax. Oh and I do have oil on my land

You'll be sharing all right, since you like GMO crops so much and probably grow them on your land you will be sharing contaminated pollen with all of your neighbors soon. Sure they save on erosion and pesticide use in the short run, but i think you will be tapping into your oil reserve soon enough after crops fail when unpredictable and widespread plant mutations begin. Monsanto corp is just not giving you that info right now, but they will "share" it with you later.

Anyway, ADM is up to 44 per share, how much have you made so far? I think it is over valued due to speculation about ethanol but who can tell.
