Shotgun 1 #181 April 27, 2006 QuoteWell, I saw a billboard on the side of the freeway this morning that said: "6-6-06 All the signs are out there." Pretty lame if you ask me that someone would believe it and pay to have a billboard tell everyone that the rapture is coming soon! I'm planning a 666 party on that date, just because it happens to be one of my favorite numbers. (And because I have to plan parties to have an excuse to clean my house. )

If you think the Bible is a myth, that's your opinion. However, my belief is that it is not. Why does this bother so many???????????????????????????????????? Us evil people have many parts of the bible that we like. For instance (no mercy!): If a man commits adultery with another man's wife--with the wife of his neighbor--both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death. Leviticus 20:10 Or another favorite(incest!): 30 Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in the mountains, for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave. 31 One day the older daughter said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is no man around here to lie with us, as is the custom all over the earth. 32 Let's get our father to drink wine and then lie with him and preserve our family line through our father." 33 That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and lay with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up. 34 The next day the older daughter said to the younger, "Last night I lay with my father. Let's get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and lie with him so we can preserve our family line through our father." 35 So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went and lay with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up. 36 So both of Lot's daughters became pregnant by their father. 37 The older daughter had a son, and she named him Moab [1] ; he is the father of the Moabites of today. 38 The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Ben-Ammi [2] ; he is the father of the Ammonites of today. Genesis 19:30-38 Wang cut off? Sorry about your luck!: 1 He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord. 2 A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the Lord. Deuteronomy 21:1 Stone the whore!!!: 13 If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her, 14 And give occasions of speech against her, and bring up an evil name upon her, and say, I took this woman, and when I came to her, I found her not a maid: 15 Then shall the father of the damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel's virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate: 16 And the damsel's father shall say unto the elders, I gave my daughter unto this man to wife, and he hateth her; 17 And, lo, he hath given occasions of speech against her, saying, I found not thy daughter a maid; and yet these are the tokens of my daughter's virginity. And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city. 18 And the elders of that city shall take that man and chastise him; 19 And they shall amerce him in an hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the damsel, because he hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days. 20 But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel: 21 Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you. Are you willing to accept that result as an 'unbiased' text? let us next imagine these men were NOT Christians.... please. the bible is the perfect example of religious fraud in the world and early church fathers admitted it. do you think that pope leo X was lying when he said, "what profit hath that fable of "christ" brought us." emperor Constantine, who convened the council of nicea(where the "bible" was assembled) was a "Pagan" sun worshiper until on his deathbed. so much for opinion, recorded "church" historywe are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively wishers never choose, choosers never wish
 hairyjuan 0 #185 April 28, 2006 QuoteQuoteI don't claim to know all the answers.I just believe what I believe. It's 66 different ones which validate each other. QuoteIt is unique in its continuity If just 10 people today were picked who were from the same place, born around the same time, spoke the same language, and made about the same amount of money, and were asked to write on just one controversial subject, they would have trouble agreeing with each other. But the Bible stands alone. It was written over a period of 1600 years by more than 40 writers from all walks of life. Some were fishermen; some were politicians. Others were generals or kings, shepherds or historians. They were from three different continents, and wrote in three different languages. They wrote on hundreds of controversial subjects yet they wrote with agreement and harmony. They wrote in dungeons, in temples, on beaches, and on hillsides, during peacetime and during war. Yet their words sound like they came from the same source. So even though 10 people today couldn’t write on one controversial subject and agree, God picked 40 different people to write the Bible – and it has stood the test of time. It is unique in its circulation The invention of the printing press in 1450 made it possible to print books in large quantities. The first book printed was the Bible. Since then, it has been read by more people and printed more times than any other book in history. By 1930, over one billion Bibles had been distributed by Bible societies around the world. By 1977, Bible societies alone were printing over 200 million Bibles each year, and this doesn’t include the rest of the Bible publishing companies. No one who is interested in knowing the truth can ignore such an important book. It is unique in translation The Bible has been translated into over 1400 languages. No other book even comes close. It is unique in survival In ancient times, books were copied by hand onto manuscripts that were made from parchment and would decay over time. Ancient books are available today only because someone made copies of the originals to preserve them. For example, the original writings of Julius Caesar are no longer around. We know what he wrote only by the copies we have. Only 10 copies still exist, and they were made 1000 years after he died. Only 600 copies of Homer’s The Iliad exist, made 1300 years after the originals were written. No other book has as many copies of the ancient manuscripts as the Bible. In fact, there are over 24000 copies of the New Testament manuscripts, some fro within 35 years of the writer’s death. It is unique in withstanding attack No other book has been so attacked throughout history as the Bible. In A.D. 300 the Roman emperor Diocletian ordered every Bible burned because he though that by destroying the Scriptures he could destroy Christianity. Anyone caught with a Bible would be executed. But just 20 years later, the Roman emperor Constantine ordered that 50 perfect copies of the Bible be made at government expense. The French philosopher Voltaire, a skeptic who destroyed the faith of many people, boasted that within 100 years of his death, the Bible would disappear from the face of the Earth. Voltaire died in 1728, but the Bible lives on. The irony of history is that 50 years after his death, the Geneva Bible Society moved into his former house and used his printing presses to print thousands of Bibles. The Bible has also survived criticism. No book has been more attacked for its accuracy. And yet archeologists are proving every year that the Bible’s detailed descriptions of historic events are correct. Argueing with eachother is futile. Because everone is right in their own faith. Does anyone have a list of the books that were omitted by the church? You know the books that discuss Lilly? Adams first wife. She was less than perfect so GOD distroyed her and made another woman from a rib of Adam. Her name was Eve. She was subordanate to man. OR The books that discuss Judas. Who was Jesus' best friend and most trusted disiple. No one else could be trusted to carry out GOD's will with the betrayal. Peter denided Christ three times before the cock crowed, yet he is the rock that the church was built. OR The books that discuss Mary Magdalyn, Christ wife. Jesus took a wife. Sometime between being 12 and schooling the jewish Leaders, and the wedding where he turned water to wine. Remember Joseph and Mary were worrried because Jesus disapeared after a visit to the city. He was found with the village elders and said "Mother, why are you worried? Don't you realize I am doing my Father's work." Yeah at 12 Jesus realized he was the savior. The church calls this a mistery, and prolongs the faith as such. The mistery years. Simple. Omitted it, so what is printed in the bible is convient to what THEY want you to believe. Brainwashed? For some to say that the BIBLE IS THE TRUTH. is ignorant. Kinda like Muslums believing there is 77 virgins waiting for them after they blow themselves up. The criteria for inclusion into the canon is: 1. Apostolic authority 2. Age of text 3. Orthodoxy 4. Widespread acceptance QuoteHe that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord. Deuteronomy 21:1 QuoteGod whittles away at you your entire life and you eventually become the person he wants you to be; a person who is worthy to enter heaven. You don’t get there because you’re a good person. You get there because you’re a bad person at heart who’s been forgiven. This is the best thread ever. hairyjuan 0 #187 April 28, 2006 QuoteQuoteTHE BIBLE CANNOT BE USED TO PROVE ITSELF OR ITS "DIVINE" INSPIRATION The Bible isn't just one book.
