Egg Donation

The Frozen Embryos song:

We do not have fingers and/or toes
We're just a couple of frozen embryos
We're kind of short on eyes, ear, lips and nose
We're just a couple of frozen embryos
One day we'll be millionaires or even maybe more
You just have to take us out--watch that baby thaw!
We don't spend too much on fancy clothes
We're just a couple of frozen embryos
(musical interlude)
One day we might grow up to be president
All we're lookin' for is just a womb to rent
If we played ball we might be semi-pros
We're just a couple of frozen embryos
We don't go to movies, plays or shows
We're just a couple of frozen embryos
We're just a couple of frozen embryos
We're just a couple of frozen embryos
"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."

Hey, you have to admit that your quoting my question and replying that I was a right-wing religous freak, etc, etc, was totally uncalled for.

No matter whether you were joking or not, Nightingale summed up my question a couple of posts ago (Thank You Nightingale!).

DO NOT try and redeem yourself by putting it back onto me by saying I am too serious, emoticon, emoticon, emoticon, etc.

You have talked/posted total bollocks, but as I believe in freedom of speech and peoples' intellect - carry on.

No int's not ethically wrong IMHO....

But,

In some countries, sperm donors are held (in part) responsible for any kids produced - i.e the Kids have a right to know their biological father... Does this also hold true for egg donations?

I just got home from a seminar on reproductive cloning, and one of the panelists was talking about a couple that sued a sperm bank because their babies (they had triplets) were not as attractive as they had wanted them to be. If you do decide to donate your eggs, keep in mind that this is the type of couple that you may possibly be helping to have children. As I've already said, if I were donating my own eggs, I would absolutely require that I would be able to approve of the couple that would receive them. (Well, unless I was really desperate for $, perhaps.)

One audience member was concerned that cloning would encourage selective breeding (artificial selection) of humans, and another one of the panelists (Dr. Zavos - what a character!) pointed out that selective breeding was already happening, using egg donor services as an example - specifically those that advertise for med students with really high SAT scores and physical attractiveness. (But, to a certain extent, I think that selective breeding of humans happens even when we choose a mate and reproduce the "normal" way, so it could be argued that it's not necessarily a bad thing.)

Now to be honest, I'm not an overly uptight person regarding this sort of moral question (I'm pretty open-minded and "middle-ground" regarding most moral issues)... but since you were asking, I just thought I would offer something to think about.

We certainly aren't running short of petulant self important fake intellectual children here that take themselves so seriously that they can't get past their own narrowly defined little stereotyped boxes they love and need to put each other in. Don't fall into the trap. It's really a crappy way to be. It leads to closed minds that just spew sophormoric tripe and pretend it's deep political-pholosophical musings. In reality, it's self congratulatory crap.

Simply speaking - There are only a handful of people here that really seem to be speaking from what they believe.

I always speak from what I believe, after I look in my little handbook that tells me what I believe. And if my little handbook doesn't offer a belief for a certain subject, then I do a search on wikipedia (which is BTW a great resource for finding beliefs, for those of you who may be lacking). Luckily I do not need outside sources to come up with the sophomoric tripe that I spew, as I have plenty of that readily available in my own little head. :)
But back to the original topic, I think that I will donate some Cadbury creme eggs to my poor fat little belly, since it's Easter and all... Oh, and maybe some whiskey too.

...I was a .....Liz
Oh my gawd.

You wish;)

Apologies for being harsh, although I think someone hacked into your dz.com account and posted replies under your name as those replies did not come across as being you.

Dan replied to a post under my name when he was staying here due to him viewing dz.com in my account - luckily he didn't write anything contentious!!!
