Help the soldiers - for real

Recommended Posts

I pulled this from a news site. In spite of the political differences we have, we should all give up a couple of jump tickets worth of cash to help the troops.

Begin quoted text >>>

There are young men and women bravely serving our country today who need all of our support regardless of your political position.

On the front lines, it is hard for our soldiers, sailors and airmen to get even simple things that are available at any supermarket here in the states: pre-paid worldwide phone cards, sunscreen, travel size toiletries, Chapstick, beef jerky, peanut butter, crackers, cards, coffee, antibiotic ointment, etc. — stuff we all take for granted here at home.

Here’s a suggestion for your next step after displaying ribbons on the back of your cars: Send contributions to the USO.

With a donation of $25, you can sponsor a USO care package and include a personal message of support and encouragement to our brave young men and women in uniform.

These care packages, at minimum, include requested items and a message from the donor thanking them for their service and sacrifice.

Demonstrate your support with a donation at www.uso cares.org.

Let make a difference, in spite of our differences.

I just send stuff directly to my brother and he tells me that so many guys get packages from random people.. he said it was awesome and he got adopted on his last tour by a grade school class from Texas.. he told me that the kids sent him drawings and all kinds of kooky and cool stuff..
Anyway, go find a national guard unit or full time soldier and adopt them.. getting mail while away from home is awesome.

That is 100% the "troof" (in honor of my wounded buddy Reed).

If the USO thing doesn't do it for you, there are about a bazillion other ways too...

You can also try www.americasupportsyou.mil and click on "You Can Help" right at the top. Or try www.woundedwarrierproject.org an outstanding group of people that reach out every day.

The support is out there, and doing a little more than waving a flag feels good every now and then. The troops love it all. Nothing goes to waste.

My $.02

Blues,
Max
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

My son's platoon seems very fond of care packages of candy, cookies, and other reminders of home. (Cigarettes too, but I don't send them).

Just out of curiosity, why? Think the smokes might KILL THEM? I think that's the least of their worries. I smoke bigtime for stress relief. The day I quit I prolly get run over by a car[:/]
I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.

he survived WWII and Korea both only to sucumb to heart failure dure to being a smoker at a
mere 67 years old...the Japs didn't kill him...
the Koreans and Chinese couldn't kill him...
