Italy's Berlusconi Loses, Prodi wins

Recommended Posts

Quote

Mr Prodi and friends (wich include a couple of communist parties and a few other mixed ultra left partners) have stated as a "leit motiv" that one of the first things they would do will be to withdraw from Iraq

Is that a bad thing? Are you in support of the war, and if so, why -- do you think it is in Italy's interest to participate?

After that he said that will meet Mr bush to teach him how to deal with the world order. Sic!
In the mean time, a magistrate (which in Italy are mainly leftist) set free some islamist terrorists, which were recruiting youngster to go to Iraq to blow up some invading troops (guess who) since they were not terrorists, but simply freedom fighters.

If there's any reason I would have voted for Berlusconi, it's because he's tough on immigration. But his policies amount to nothing since he ignores the mafia -- and part of what the mafia does is let immigrants in through the ports they run. It's a good money-maker. As far as these terrorists go, that's horrible, but that still would happen regardless of which Prime Minister is in power, no?

but it seems that you are victim of the usual "disinformtja".

Speaking of disinformation, how about Italy's press freedom, or recent lack thereof...are you sure you're well-informed? Cosa ne pensi? :|

So many words written, by so many that have absolutely no knowledge of Italy and Italians.

Yeah, that's it. Comment on the posters rather than discuss the issue, par-for-the-course in Speaker's Corner. Very much like the discussions we have here about left/right democrat/republican.

Might I add, that's a rather presumptuous thing to write.

Do not forget that more than 50% of the population voted for Berlusconi

Ok professor, I won't forget that. Funny though that the news as of this morning says that the recount isn't done yet. Does your vote somehow carry extra weight to tip the balance over 50%, or is it one of the many things about Italy and Italians that you just know?

You might cast your vote in Italy as an AIRE (Italia living abroad) but speaking about Italy you might not have clear the differences between "camera" and "senato".
At the Senate Berlusconi has had for sure the majority of the casted votes.
At the Camera they are counting but the difference is aprox. plus 25.000 votes on Prodi's side that in no way are enough to balance the plus 500.000 that Berlusconi obtained at the Senate then technically Belusca, has the majority of the casted votes even though he hasn't won the elections.
On the other side I myself are an AIRE eventhough I spend most of my time in Italy and thanks to some burocratic disease I, as many other thousand of people, did not receive in time the papers that would have allowed me to vote!!! Might just be a coincidence but what an excellent coincidence for Mr. Prodi.
