Their latest press release says they're going to start picketing Wounded-In-Action Servicemembers. They've got a flyer that says they're going to start picketing rehab facilities...

Does this sound like it will fall under the heading of "fighting words"?

They're really trying to get someone to assault them so they can get their 10+ lawyers (all family members) to sue for damages...

How would that be for a message - "Yep, I gave my leg to ensure your continuing right to protest me. I'm not gonna let those people stop you, for it does a disservice to me. Unfortunately I am not too far away from this wacko. There is an outfit of motorcycle riders (the patriot guard) that work to block the protesters from the family at the funerals. It has become a rallying point. As a christian, it makes me sick that some people use the pretense religion to spread their hate agenda. The state is also working to pass a law limiting protest at funerals.

Thats worth repeating. I'm sure not EVERY soldier feels this way. But I do. I do what I do for ALL rights. Not just the ones that make me feel good. Even ones that let jackasses be jackasses!

What we need is some guy with a Rem 700 picking these fuckers off...just one at every other protest, that's all you need. They'll start thinking twice about protesting out in the open. And to top it off the feds can run an incredibly sub-standard investigation b/c in reality, they don't care about catching the guy. That would be such an awesome scenario.

I think the motocycle guard is a good idea, provided they don't actually interfere with the protest. If they stand between the protesters and the families, or rev their choppers to drown out the sounds, it's a great idea. The bottom line is that the way we counteract offensive speech in this country is not by censoring the speaker. The way to remedy it is with more speech, better speech. Speech that makes more sense, and changes people's minds. These people may be saying some very offensive stuff, in a very offensive way (don't they think these soldiers will go to hell because they fight for a country that supports a gay lifestyle?), but they still get to speak their opinions. And I would go to court to fight against a law that limited any peaceful protest.

I agree with you not to censor the opinion. This is a free country to be as stupid as you want to be. The patriot guard does a great job and does it peacefully. The families have been very pleased with their help.
