Only two non CCW states left

Recommended Posts

Nebraska and Kansas both passed CCW legislation out of both houses with the Governors word that he will sign the bills.

Only WI and IL will be left for states with no form of CCW.

WI came up two votes short of a veto override earlier this year. Two Democrats flipped for the veto session(under heavy pressure from the Governor) that had previously voted for the bill. It is only a matter of time before WI gets a CCW passed.

Iowa needs to get fixed. You may get a permit or not depending on which county you are in>:(

It's a bit inaccurate to say that only 2 states remain.

If it's not a "Shall Issue" CCW policy, it doesn't really count. See California - there are 12 CCWs in San Francisco and just a few more in the even larger Alameda County.

I'd question NY as included as well, considering handguns are illegal period in NYC.

Did you look at the graph?

It shows the Shall issue vs May issue states. I am well aware of the issues in the "May issue" states. I was just choosing to look at the positive side of what has been happening over the last decade or so.

Criminals are probably very upset about this.

Richards

So are the libs.....:P

Naturally,

How are hard working criminals supposed to prey on the innocent to earn their daily bread when their targets are not defenceless.

As for Liberals/Democrats, of couse their upset. Criminals vote for them. If the rapists and thugs who can be counted on to vote liberal/democrat start becoming extinct due to lead poisoning, the libs/democrats will feel some pain in the next election.

What an odd statement. I have never raped or thugged anyone and I generally vote for democrats.
I have no criminal record and and have no real problem with carry permits.

So to you I say...whatever.

There's an original thought. You should copyright it before anyone else uses it.

oooh...John better proof his articles for the next couple weeks.

Say...doesn't that apply to his line, too?!

Illogical response. Saying "criminals will always vote democrat" is not the same as saying "all democrat voters are criminals".

I'm pretty sure Tom Rudy (DeLay's former aide) Scooter Libby, Duke Cunningham and Jack Abramoff voted republican . . .

I do not follow. Please provide more details.

See my response to Racer 42 on that same argument. WRT my saying liberals don't like gun laws I was refering to liberal/democrat politicians. They are inherently more likely to expect people to let the state protect them than allow people to protect themselves.

I was really not attacking people with liberal values yet since you are the second person to take it that way I clearly must have come across that way. I am sorry if my comment was interpreted as an attack on liberal minded people

Richard,
I really think they are playing stupid.

If anyone really does not believe that the vast majority of Democratic polititions are anti-gun please make it be known. I can dig up plenty of voting records with Pro gun bills getting little to no democratic vote and anti gun bills getting a huge vote from the dems but little to none from the Rep.

Sure there are a few democrats that like guns. Hell even Kallend says he is not against guns. I believe Kallend to be very Anti-gun. He just supports the constitution so he will stick to that and not admit that he does not like guns.

Kansas was a tough sell this year, but it got done. The House approved it, overwhelmingly. The Senate then also approved it, overwhelmingly. The Governor decided to veto it, citing concerns of the chiefs of police. (Remember that thread about how chiefs of police vastly support citizen gun ownership, and how the anti-gun folks cherry-pick a few anti-gun chiefs and try and use them to kill pro-gun legislation, as if they represent all cops?) The House and Senate then both voted with more than a two-thirds majority to override the Governor's veto.

So the Governor can go stick it in her ear. And I hope the citizens of Kansas vote her ass out of office for refusing to support the wishes of her citizenry and their representatives.

I think this makes 38 states now with "shall issue" concealed handgun carry. "Shall issue" means that if the citizen qualifies and jumps through all the hoops, then the State has to issue the license. There are no personal opinions allowed to decline to issue the permits.

And despite all these citizens running around with guns, crime is at its lowest levels in 25 years.

I believe the Nebraska bill is a bit watered down. It will need some work but it is a start.

Hopefully WI get Doyle voted out of office and they will then be the 39th shall issue with only Illinois with no form of CCW.

you know, me, personally - i would be more inclined to support your position if you had the mindset that firearms were neccessary for the individual to protect themselves *from the state* rather than from other individuals. (kind of the original idea, imho, some important folks had say, about 200+ yrs ago)

but that's just me. i'd say i trust my neighbor, a hell of a lot more than i trust any boy in blue or LEO. if i have a firearm its not to protect me from thugs, it's to protect me from the state. ironically enough, there may be some parallel's between that idea and what you're talking about - enabling the individual to protect themselves rather than relying on the government (imo, your argument shows an *inherent* distrust of the gov, which is perfectly fine with me)

not mine: because compulsory collection of taxes is de facto performed under threat of violence from a State, its subjects have the right to defend themselves from such extortion.
