Rebecca 0 #1 March 30, 2006 They let her go! Not even a scratch or a bruise on her - she says they never even threatened to hit her. With all these headlines every day, telling us about more soldiers, journalists, civilians, children getting killed for whatever reason, thank God there's one we didn't have to see. It may sound weird, but I'm grateful to her captors. you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?
warpedskydiver 0 #2 March 30, 2006 I certainly hope she was actually kidnapped... I am glad she is well I am sure her new book will sell very well.

Michele 1 #4 March 30, 2006 I agree - and am also very pleased that she is unharmed physically. When I heard that on the television this morning, I sat there and said "no way..." and when it was confirmed, I just grinned in glee. Hot damn!! Doesn't exactly match what she said in the videos that were released while she was being held captive. quade 4 #7 March 30, 2006 Oh! Me too. It's just that her story doesn't seem to match the videos. I don't know if we're seeing "Stockholm Syndrom" or what. I hope she gets a good debrief from the CIA.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Is it not possible that she was genuinely in fear of her life just by virtue of being held captive by a group of terrorists, regardless of whether or not they physically abused her or explicitly threatened to kill her. After all, dozens of journalists HAVE been killed by terrorists in Iraq, so she would have every reason to be afraid the same would happen to her.... champu 1 #12 March 30, 2006 I have to admit, I expected the worst when I heard of her kidnapping. This news comes as a very pleasant surprise. It would be interesting to know what went on behind the scenes (assuming something specific happened) that resulted in her release.
quade 4 #13 March 30, 2006 Quote>She sure seemed to be in fear for her life on that video. So her >sudden conversion sure is suspicious. Or was saying what she had been told to say. Although I can't for a minute imagine ever behaving like that without some fear of death, which, kind of implies a threat she currently says was never given. One could concoct all sorts of stories based from what we currently know, but the one thing we know for a fact is that her current story doesn't match the video. Could be Stockholm or it could be something far more nefarious.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

I've been hopeful they'd let her go after they daid they'd kill her and let a couple deadlines pass with no word or body. As to whether or not this is suspicious, her translator, who she'd worked with for quite some time, was killed in the initial abduction. There are some details that don't seem to add up, but I'm not about to jump on the lady and accuse her of creating a hoax. Leave it to this crowd for that kind of thing. billvon 3,118 #20 April 3, 2006 I must say I cannot understand the odd outpouring of hate against her from US bloggers. You would think that the release of a hostage is a good thing no matter how you look at it - and that people understand that kidnappers often force people to read things against their will. I'm guessing it comes from people that have never been held captive. Senator McCain did an interview on Meet the Press this week and had some insights on the situation. Basically, he has quite a bit of sympathy for her and understands that when you have a gun pointed to your head, you might just say whatever the hell they want you to say.
