Elections in the middle east

in case you've been napping, here's a recap:

The Palestinian parliament with a Hamas majority, recently confirmed the cabinet. Quoting one Hamas member "The Quran is our constitution, jihad is our way, and death for the sake of God is our highest aspiration."

Israel elected a new Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert. He says If the Palestinians did not move towards peace, he said, "Israel will take its destiny in hand" and set permanent borders after lobbying the United States and others for support.

My prediction: Israel will continue withdrawing from territory, Hamas will take this as both a sign of weakenss and victory. Hamas will demand more concessions until Israel finally says no. This will make the Iraq situation look like a nice field trip.

Lots of important people have lost their jobs or at least credibility trying to predict what happens in that part of the world.

Pray for the best. Get ready for the worst.

it's only going to get uglier in that area.

No matter who is in charge, there will be no peace.

There are so many that are reliant on violence to maintain their status in politics and to live their own lavish lifestyles.

That's the interesting thing about Democracy and Free Elections. It isn't always fair. People mostly vote along the same directions as their emotions and not by what is right, wrong or prudent.
