Come again.... would you like me to post many of the wrongful arrests where it took people sometimes years to get out of jail? When cops screw up, their buddies are there to keep the victim burried to protect the career of the so-called good cop.

true. But exeption to the rule doesnt change the rule. You are of course only going to hear bad stuff on the news.

You have no expectation of privacy while in public, but where does teh harrassment of cameras enter the scene?

scenes checked out by cameras instead of, or supplementing, actual cops. same amount of intrusion; more efficient.

This is not some small exception to some obscure rule, this is about Constitutional protections, the cornerstone of the US Const. The US Const = protections and if we ignire them then we are ignoring the primary document under which this country was formed. To say, "Ah, small exception" is define the very purpose of teh US Const; the US Const was drafted to protect thise small exceptions.

As for media and bad stuff, if I post some good stuff from the media will that thwart that argument? I can. Granted, the media presents things that attract and sell, and trainwrecks attract more that a person donating time at a seniors home. But the media isn't part of the gov, maybe parasites at best.

No, more intrusive than cops in that cops don't have vision that keen. Again, there is no expectation of privacy when outside, so it's a moot point, but a general feeling of police state will be the product if they do it.

Does nobody see the irony in the fact that the situation leans more and more every day towards the feeling that it's
Us (the people) VS Them (the government)

The country changed when we discovered that being able to eat, support our families, and take a vacation once a year just wasn't quit enough to satisfy us.

This is the year 2006 and we want it all baby! The right to say anything without retribution (as long as it isn't about a subject that we personally consider to be politically incorrect). The right to say that we're being discriminated against (even if we don't have the same qualifications as everyone else). The right to burn the American flag (just because we hate America, even though we live here). The right to work and live in this country (even if we are doing it illegally). The right to be ashamed when one of our brothers or sisters waves the flag with passion.

The right to complain about the government, and then never do anything to change it. The right to be a sheep.

It isn't just us -vs- them, it's us-vs-us-vs-them-vs-us.

Unless that is, someone's feelings get hurt, or you say "coon", instead of "conda"...

1. He said, "Coon" and didn't even modify it to Coonda... Conda.... cough, hack, sorry, stuck in my throat, etc....

The context where he said, "Coon" was about Coon and not Conda.

2. The US Const has a 1-way realtionship between the gov and a citizen, so this is not an issue of freedom of speech since the US gov didn't deny any speech.

>I don't think they intended for someone to tell the 'president to
>go fuck himself'

Oh, I think that's exactly what they meant. Don't forget, these were people who just told King George III to go fuck himself. More literate people said it in a more erudite way, of course - but the constitution is for everyone, not just people who can speak and write well.

That does not mean, of course, that anyone has a right to say that and a) get taken seriously, b) get on TV saying it or c) not get a lot of shit for saying it. But they do have the right to say it - because we said the same thing to the king of England, and it was a good thing that we did.

That's what I'm getting at. Our founding 'fathers', said it but, with a bit of thought behind what they said. They took responsibility (boy, did they!) for what and how they said something. Now days, folks just say things but aren't willing to accept the consequences for what they say and use disguises like 'art' or 'freedom of speech'. Everybody wants respect but not too many are willing to 'earn' it. I am by no means saying, that our freedom of speech be taken away or controlled in any way. Just be ready to have to back-up what you say. I think, we're on the same 'plane'.

The exception of the rule is that people get wrongfully accused. Most of the people do not get wrongfully accused. This is not obscure. The Constitution guarantees these rights, but the people who violate these said rights aren't a piece of paper. There's always going to be exceptions. There always has , there always will be.

A lot of crazy turbulent things have to happen before these papers on display in D. C. are nullified. A lot. there's way too many people in this country that will fight life and death to prevent that. Do not underestimate the power of the "Sheep" History has proven again and again that Sheep outnumber the Wolf and the Wolf can only push so much. Life has a way of preventing a long-run "Zero Sum" from happening anywhere. George Orwell wrote an easy to read book about a dystopic 1984, not a peer reviewed dissertation about 1984.

not directed to anyone in particular

You know, I kind of wonder if a lot of people with "falling sky" syndrome started out with a initial read of the book "1984". You know, someone reads it and their life is altered like those Tool Fans*. They joined the Club. Now they are doomed to walk the earth comparing all negative instances of gov't stuff to the "1984" and shout out loud. . ."Ah, Ha!! It's a police state!!" or "Gramma can't take a shit without asking Big Brother!!" But I won't get it because I am not part of the Club.

*As in: you and a Tool Fan talk about the band and you say something to the effect that "They definitely didn't forget about Time Signatures and cleaning it up in High School Band. Too bad you have to listen to the singer while enjoying the music.", and they say: "YOU DON'T GET IT. NONE OF YOU GET IT!! It's about the music, man!! I understand it, but you are not part of the Club so you cant understand it. You can't know what I know!!"

They'll point out that Clinton blah blah blah distraction blame-shift blah blah...)

Two days and two pages later, there's been no such mention of Clinton, or any of the other crap you mentioned.

Does it just make life more managable for you to shove people you disagree with into easy-to-understand little containers, or what? :S

I could go on and on and on and on

Sure -- I could go on and on with random links to all of your posts too. :o

But the point was to backup your claim that I put groups of people into convenient little boxes in order to understand them and explain them away.

I maintain that I do that less than a lot of other people, and your random URLs demonstrate that. Thanks. ;)
