To follow those laws every patron would be required to take a breathalizer test before being served each individual drink. That is the only way to really know if you are over serving. The laws are in place to make some one other than the drinker responsible when shit hits the fan.

How would you have felt if you got arrested while binge drinking to get your ring?

How does it feel to be a criminal, since I am sure you have been intoxicated before outside of your house?

Now that you are a criminal, will you give up your career in law enforcement?

Damn, I thought being a criminal was a prerequisite;):P

what is the point of having a designated driver when you will get arrested for being drunk even though you don't plan on driving. They are trying to prevent a crime before it even happens. That is bullshit. There is no way they would know if any of those people would even be driving drunk. I think it is better to do the road blocks.

So now everyone in TX can only get shitfaced at home? WTF! This world really is going to hell in a handbasket!

Check your state's laws, I'm willing to bet there are similar laws on the books in your state.

Remember, this isn't about trying to prevent a crime. If folks actually followed the links I posted and read the text, then they would know that. Obviously people are more willing to complain then actually understand what is going on.

Dave, you are absolutely right! When you think about the good police work you are doing, you must be welling up with pride. All the years of school, the academy, the studying, training, pt, countless rounds down range, cqb, learning to drive police cars at triple digit speeds while weaving through traffic. I know, you're thinking the guys who live a few streets over may be in homicide, ia, vice, or undercover. Weak shit. Not you though. You're putting your training and commitment to its fullest use - protecting bar patrons from drunks. No telling where those people might fall down. Seriously. Not to mention the small business owner of the bar. Start busting his patrons and that menace to society will be missing his mortgage payments in no time. Personally, I can't think of a better use of our tax dollars.

btw - I'm just hacking on you. In all seriousness, no cop I know (more than just a couple) would feel good about doing shit work like this, but every one would walk the line.

If they tried that in Baltimore, I guarantee there would be bloodshed over it.:|
Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off.

Exactly the reason why alcohol needs to be banned and drunks need to be thrown in jail. These fuckers get violent when they don't get their fix.

They should at least learn from Bostonians, and instead of fighting, they should all sit down together and have a tea party. Much more civilized people over there.

>I think they should do this all over the country.

Exactly. In the words of the people doing this: "TABC officials said the sweep concerned saving lives, not individual rights." Who cares about 'individual rights?' The government will keep us safe without people using their so-called 'rights.'

Precisely. What good are individual rights if we're all dead?

There's this great saying, "He who would sacrifice security for freedom will receive neither" - because he'll be dead.

So true.

See. Drugs are illegal and it works How many places can you go to to see a bunch of people hopped up on pot and fighting? I never have.

Which means the War on Drugs works.

But any given weekend you can go to any given bar and there's going to be people fighting, arguing, some girl getting drunk and having sex with somebody she doesn't even know. This happens all the time.

Alchol is state-sponsored drug abuse. And it needs to stop. The time is now.

I believe that was Ben Franklin's second cousin, Lester.

Maybe so. I've never been one to pay attention to history.

So, does anyone know how it is being determined who should be arrested for public intoxication in these stings? I'm too lazy to try to find that info right now, but that would make a big difference in my opinion on the issue. I do know that the TABC announced last year that they would be cracking down on this kind of stuff, so it's not as if people were not warned... Though I don't necessarily agree with everything that the TABC is cracking down on...

SOOOOO I guess the level of crime that is drug related has no bearing what soever...eeeesh

Oh and HOW full are our jails with non violent drug offenders...?????

So since we have one of the highest populations of prison inmates in the world.. you want to double that..( at least) for alcohol related criminals????

SOOO who is supposed to pay for your take on the morality of alcohol abuse..... get back to me with the answers to that on Monday after you get the answers from your minister from the pulpit.

That's because they were too stupid to get busted before they could commit any crimes. You ever see someone high on drugs get angry? I didn't think so. It's not a sight to be seen. It's not someone you want to reckon with. Better put them jail where they can't really hurt the innocent public.

Don't get me wrong; I would rather see them helped. I would rather see them clean and be useful members of society, but there is no reasoning with drug users. It's a whole different kind of mentality, especially when they are high on drugs.

No I would rather these people clean up and be productive. But it seems that they don't want to. I mean, just see how many people are angry about this, even though they were breaking the law. It just goes to show the kind of people we're dealing with.

We have to start by putting them in jail so they realize they will have to change their lifestyle. Only then will they decide to try and stop and become useful and productive members of society.

I don't want to see people in jail. But it's up to them to stay out; it's up to them to not commit crimes. When they are high on drugs (and I count alcohol as a drug) they don't care whether they are committing crimesand that is the problem.

We have to change the way society looks at things, and it is a long road ahead, so we have to start with the most extreme measures first and then work our way down.

There is nothing scarier in this world than a pissed-off pothead. They might get so angry and out of control that they eat a whole box of Ding Dongs and fall asleep on the sofa! Throw those fuckers in jail, man, before they hurt someone!

Don't even get me started on the addictive chemicals they put into junk foods and snack cakes. The South Park episode where Cartman vegetated out on Beefcake, well that was based on a real-life story. That kid started out as a stoner. I pray to God every night he turned out okay. He was a good kid too. Just got in with the bad crowd. Started smoking marijuana, then eating beefcake. Next thing I knew he was strung out on steroids and attacking people.

that's a whole another story in itself ... we ended up going to the cops and it turns out the guy was wanted by the fbi but they couldn't pin anything on him ... with her testimony he's going away for a long time ... and we had to join the witness protection plan and got new names and got to go to [edit - i shouldn't say where i am]

anyways it all worked out great.

In the UK it is an offence to be drunk in a public place... including a bar. I guess being drunk is classed as drinking to excess and you shouldn't get in that state if the bar staff are doing their job properly. However, in reality nothing happens to anyone. If is repeated trouble originating from one paticular licenced premises then they can get shut down (as in the case of one nightclub in our town) as the police are the people that grant the licence to serve intoxicating liquor and can just as easily revoke it.

The only people who get in trouble are when they start fighting or getting out of hand harrassing people.

EDIT - After posting this I've read the whole thread through and see, as ever, it's taken an interesting tangent! :D
