good. i'm tired of having to deal with drunk assholes at bars. i like to go to bars to play some pool and darts, but everytime i go there's a bunch of drunk bastards who are loud and obnoxious and keep trying to start fights.

i'm glad they're getting arrested.

about friggin' time.

There really isn't a mind bending justification. There's two sides to Texas law on this one. One, its illegal for bartender to overserve a customer. Its also illegal to be intoxicated to the point of endangering yourself or others. Bar tenders overserving patrons is a serious problem that results in many problems besides just people being drunk in a bar. Serious violence as well as other crimes are linked to people being too intoxicated.

Sure someone may state that they're not going to drive, if they're in the bar, but its still Public Intoxication.

Here's a link to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code: http://www.tabc.state.tx.us/leginfo/code.htm

Here's a link to the Texas Penal Code: http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/statutes/petoc.html

Here's a link to the Texas Transportation Code: http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/statutes/tn.toc.htm

In those 3 code you will find the full definitions and may gain understanding as to why, what and how about something in Texas law that you do not understand. Specifically this instance. There are laws in all 3 of those codes that apply to this situation.

Any questions beyond this post please feel free to direct them to a lawyer certified to practice in TX.

I can do the splits...even prior to consuming tequila...>:(

Why would anyone want to arrest a peaceful or happy drunkard in a bar minding their own business or spreading cheer, mirth, and merriment throughout the bar?

becuase they are cops... the spoilers of good times!
did you know that at one time roadside stops were not legal but in the POLITICAL CORRECTIVENESS movement they made them legal to try and stop drunk drivers, and 90 percent of the cars they tow and people they arrest at those stop points are not for drunk driving! they get it for warrants,no license, no registration, no insurance! These are DUI check points not an excuse to check everyone for all their credentials....... stop-check-for-alcohol and thats it!!
and the sad part is watch where this is going in a few years I think you will find this is just the beggining!

said with a heavy german, or russian if you can do it, accent.... STOP, I SEE YOU HAVE NOT BEEN DRINKING TONIGHT, DAT IS GOOT. BUT SINCE I HAVE YOU HERE......., PAPERS PLEASE, MMMMMM I SEE THERE IS A PROBLEM HERE YOUR REGISTRATION HAS LAPSED I VILL HAVE TO TOW YOUR CAR AND TAKE YOU TO ZE STATION....
says to fellow gestapo VE HAVE CAUGHT ANOTHER ONE UNDER THE GUISE OF A DUI CHECK POINT, GOD I LOVE THE POLITICAL CORRECTTIVENESS MOVEMENT, HE WASNT DRINKING BUT HIZ PAPERS VERE NOT IN ORDER, HE VILL HAVE TO PAY FINES TO THE STATE WHICH MEANS MORE MONEY FOR THE STATE!!!!

I don't know why everyone is getting all angry about this? If you can control your liquor you have absolutely nothing to worry about. They went around arresting people who were really drunk, the same people who would end up driving home drunk and starting barfights. By putting them in the drunk tank, they made the town a safer place to live. I think they should do this all over the country.

They should also just make it illegal for a bartender to serve you more than a certain amount of alcohol. Nothing good comes out of alcohol anyways. There are so manya people who lose their lives to alcohol abuse; we need the government to step in and do something about it.

I, for one, am proud of Texans, that they care enough about their fellow people, that they will stand up and do the right thing, even when everybody else disagrees.

Ahhh, the much awaited Police Pre-Crimes Division.

So, if you had an angry expression on your face, would this indicate you should be arrested because you are more likely to fight or drive recklessly??? :S

ASSUME THE POSITION!

No question it's fucked up. The whole danger to self & others is grade A bullshit peddled by puritanical busybodies. Some drinkers were staying in the hotel they were drinking in!

When the local authorities principal justification for your arrest is saying it was to prevent a crime they assumed you'd commit in future (and that's exactly what they say in this article) you KNOW you're not living in the land of the free. Gobshite justification about statutes just masks how ludicrous this situation is, it was Hitler who sought to pass laws that made criminals out of everyone.

NICE GOING TEXAS!
Do people there realize their tax dollars are being spent on cops going into bars and arresting people for .... being drunk? Not to mention, those people have to be taken to jail and then go to court - all on the taxpayers dime. God forbid the cops would go out and try to catch actual criminals. Nope, not in Texas. They just roll into a bar and start arresting people. I guess the new "shooting fish in a barrel" is now "arresting drunks in bars". Chalk this up as reason # 897 why we should trade Texas back to Mexico for oil.

Um, not comparable at all. How I tie my shoes and how I comb my hair may make me look like an ass, but causes no problems to anybody. Drunk people are a menace to society. Why do we ban drugs but allow alcohol intoxication?

When are we, as a society, going to take back our right to be safe in our own country?

Check your state's laws, I'm willing to bet there are similar laws on the books in your state.

Remember, this isn't about trying to prevent a crime. If folks actually followed the links I posted and read the text, then they would know that. Obviously people are more willing to complain then actually understand what is going on.

I agree. Cops have better things to do than go around making false arrests. You think they like to do all the paperwork when they put a lot of people in jail? You think they enjoy the media hassles after the event?

I don't think so.

They went around arresting criminals, according to Texas law, and making the streets safer, all in one swoop. Simple as that.
