I've come to the conclusion that most people don't TRULY believe in the religion that they associate with; they believe in their own modified version of it.

Most people have a definition of what is right and wrong already. Then, they go associate with others who hold generally the same beliefs. So, they find a church that fits their definition. They really don't want anyone challenging their behavior.

Of course, since people already have a definition of moral behavior, there is actually no point in church attendance.

99% of people know what is right and wrong. You have to be a general idiot not to know. Some just choose to ignore it because they don't care about the impact of their actions. It is what they wish to do.

"Todays sermon will be on the Commandments. There is still Ten... no new ones in the last 2000 years, so let's all just go fishing early. Thanks for coming."

Good girls go to heaven. Bad girls go to the Bahamas for 3-day weekends.

It appears that none of the devout Christians want to admit where devout Hindus go after death. It isn't Heaven or even the Bahamas!

See post # 32.

Uh, missed it among the verbiage.

Devout Hindus, Jews, Buddhists, regardless of the rectitude of their lives, all go straight to HELL without collecting $200.

Thanks. So returning to the original question, why would any devout Christian associate with such awful sinning people?

Because those devout Christians you mentioned are awful sinning people just like everyone else and because Jesus instructed us to. Born again Christians don't go to heaven when they die because they're good people. They go to heaven because they’re bad people who have been forgiven. All the good deeds they do from that point on are only because Jesus lives in their hearts. That does not mean that they don't still fall into sin like everyone else. They just don't wallow in it, they feel bad about it, and try to continually change. It comes with the regenerative spirit. It's the difference between going with the flow of the river and swimming against the current. Becoming a Christian does not necessarily make your life easier. It has been my experience that it makes life harder.
