religious slackers

Why are people called "religious extremists"? If you really believe in a religion, shouldn't it be the most serious thing in the world to you?

The Jeh Witnesses go door-to-door on Saturdays. They are pretty aggressive about spreading the word.

The religious right in the US may gripe about Hollywood and movie content, but essentially it seems to be noise and posturing. Like politicians gathering a making for the sake of revenue enhancement. "As long as you send us money, you've done your part."

If I was crossing the street in front of a bicycle, everyone would be yelling to prevent that sprained wrist and ripped pants. Facing eternal fire, pain, brimstone, etc ? Nada.

If the other religion are essentially Satan-worshippers, then why do religions accept them so easily ?

I say - quit your jobs, sell your house, and start preaching out of the back of a van - or don't claim to believe. True believer or poser, no middle ground.

Horseshit.

It is perfectly possible to believe in God but not to the extent that he is important enough to bomb jews or even go to church. Religion is personal so the middle ground is just as valuable as the "extremes".

Example: I'm an atheist. But I'm not that much of an atheist that I wouldn't have my kid baptised. I'd even marry in front of the church...just for the hell of it. If you think I'm being a hypocrit, I'm not. Because to me there is no God so there's nothing to be hypocritical about.

You said "horseshit" but then you explained a position that's unrelated to the point he made and followed it up by describing how ineligible you are to have an opinion on the matter.

I thought it was a brilliant observation.

definition of hypocrite

Quote

Hypocrisy is the act of pretending to have morals or virtues that one does not truly possess or practice.

According to the dictionary, that is Exactly the definition of a hypocrite.

Perhaps the religious people you are referring to do not believe that other people in other religions are essentially Satan-worshippers.

If a US citizen does not try to convince every foreigner he meets to emigrate to the US, is he unpatriotic? Does he hate his country? Is his choice either spread democracy or leave the US?

Ok let me try again.

Why are people called "religious extremists"? If you really believe in a religion, shouldn't it be the most serious thing in the world to you?

No. It shouldn't. They are called extremist because for them it is the most important thing in the world. This shouldn't be the case though.

The Jeh Witnesses go door-to-door on Saturdays. They are pretty aggressive about spreading the word.

Indeed they are. Point?

The religious right in the US may gripe about Hollywood and movie content, but essentially it seems to be noise and posturing. Like politicians gathering a making for the sake of revenue enhancement. "As long as you send us money, you've done your part."

So you're saying the should take action? What more should they do then, to stop being posers? Bash some homo's who went to see BB mountain? once again I fail to see the point. Or are you saying they are abusing religion? Yes this might be the case...

If I was crossing the street in front of a bicycle, everyone would be yelling to prevent that sprained wrist and ripped pants. Facing eternal fire, pain, brimstone, etc ? Nada.

This I can't comment to because I don't know wtf you're talking about. Seriously...mea culpa.

If the other religion are essentially Satan-worshippers, then why do religions accept them so easily ?

Ah now we're getting somewhere. Good point. I never did understannd how people can be dead certain their religion is the only one, when there's hundreds of other religions, all claiming something different and just as easy/hard to believe.

Still...what is your point? In fact...many religions do NOT accept other religions.

I say - quit your jobs, sell your house, and start preaching out of the back of a van - or don't claim to believe. True believer or poser, no middle ground.

Hmmm...I think I know what you mean now. It took me a while. My bad. You're saying people shouldn't bitch or be hypocrits without actually making an effort. Sure thing...I agree. Only thing is...I think it's a good think all them posers, stay posers. Wouldn't want them to actually try something. I'd move to Afghanistan if I did

So I'm a hypocrit because I'm an atheist who marries in front of the church. Luckily for me there is no God and I don't give a fuck about all the extremists who think I'm a hypocrite for marrying in front of the church without being a believer.

If a person believes in Religion A, then it is the only true path to "salvation" (or other applicable term). Any teaching that diverges from that truth is leading the person to eternal damnation and probable torment. So, any religious followers other than Religion A are some flavor of Satans minions.

The religious right in the US regards Hollywood as a pit of evil, much as the religious figures in the Middle East.

Patriotism is not a comparable topic, because, for a true believer, religion is a far more serious issue than that.

By the dictionary definition, yes.

Extremist English teachers, not religious figures.

Unless he's not anal about religion. For instance he might just believe in a god. Period.

If he is serious...yes...then you are right with the minions and the damnation

Obviously they have something in common yes

True. I certainly know people like that.

I was comparing it as a "live of suffering, etc" vs "an after-life eternity of torment" thing.

To the extreme patriot, the importance is probably equal.

>If a person believes in Religion A, then it is the only true path to "salvation" . . . .

That is not true for a very large number of religions (or even believers within a given religion.)

>religion is a far more serious issue than that.

And for some people, patriotism is far more serious than religion. Call them a religious heretic and they would likely laugh at you; call them a traitor to the US and it will come to blows.

I think you may have your own mental image of a "true believer" - and that's fine. Your image applies to very few people in the real world, though. IMO.

Exactly the point. That image applies to very few.
The reason ? Because very few believe in the doctrine of the faith that they profess to have.

In fact, people don't adhere to the minimal rules.
- Catholics using birth control.
- Sex outside of marriage.

If you can't do the minimum, that is slacking.

This algebra implies you're talkiing in general about all religions of the world. In fact notions of "salvation" and "damnation" are not universal at all and mostly pertain to Christianity (and to a lesser extent Judaism and Islam).

If you look at many eastern religions, you'll find that they are much more accepting of conflicting points of view.

And I think it's a minority of Christians who think of salvation or damnation in such narrow, simplistic terms (if at all) as to conclude that those who believe otherwise are damned.

But a Christian, Muslim or Jew who truly believes in the 10 Commandments should have no tolerance for non-believers, and Christians certainly should have no tolerance for those who don't believe Jesus was the son of God, since those people are heretics and sinners. It isn't a sin to be a non-US citizen (not yet, anyway).

But it is for Christians:

Seems pretty clear to me.

Right, and the constitution says you have to give back runaway slaves. If you refuse to return a hooker to her john who has purchased her, are you unpatriotic? Or do you disregard that part of the constitution?

Have you ever actually read anything in the Bible, or do you just like to pretend you know what Christians believe?
Jesus came, bearing a message telling His followers to love God first and foremost, and love others as we love ourselves.
Just because a Christian doesn't agree with immoral behavior, doesn't mean they don't love those who commit that behavior. ( After all, all of us Christians have done the SAME thing).

I am a sinner just like everyone else; the only thing is, I choose to try to live my life glorifying to God and His word. Yes, I still screw up, constantly...but I have surrendered my life to God to use it for His purposes.

People wonder why Christians are so adamant about sharing their faith; I enjoy sharing, because I have seen what a life surrendered to God can become. I have seen the changes in my own life, and in the lives of others. Why would I want anyone to miss out, on knowing peace, joy, happiness, that comes from peace with God?

The drafters of the constitution were not omniscient or infallible, they were allowed to make mistakes. God isn't.

No.

Because the "teachings" are open to interpretation. It is the interpretation that would make some one an extremist or not. This doesn't only happen in religion, it happens in all facets of life.

Interesting rant, little too over-simplified to even make sense though.
