Only The Rich Pay Taxes....

> If the top 5% picked up the income tax for the bottom 50%, that would add 5k per household in spending power to the bottom 50%

I was just thinking, if I were in the bottom 50%, what could I personally do to increase my income by 5,000.00. It never occurred to me, that I could force it from someone elses hands into my pocket through tax law.

To earn an extra 5,000.00 in income is not that hard, just requires alittle extra work. That would be far more positive to the economy as well as to the individual.

You know this is too much to ask don't you? That would actually require doing something when it's easier to get (mom and dad) the government to confiscate it for you.

I'm up late almost every night. No Mrs.

Back on point. I find it amusing that those who whine about people who have a high income paying more taxes, would never lower themselves to going door to door in a wealthy neighborhood asking for help, but have no problem demanding the government do it for them.

The Bottom 50% earn less than 30k per year. The top 5% roughly earn more than 200k per year.

If the top 5% picked up the income tax for the bottom 50%, that would add 5k per household in spending power to the bottom 50%. That would have a far more positive benefit to the econmy than giving the wealthy minority a small tax break. As someone in the bottom 50% I can tell you that money would make the difference between renting an apt and a mortgage on a house.

As someone in the top 5% I can tell you that I'm not paying your damn taxes so you can "buy a house".

When I was in the bottom 50% I paid my taxes, lived on a budget and bought a house that ended up being significantly cheaper for a mortgage than what I paid in rent. In addition to that, I went to school. When I graduated, I went to graduate school.

I made my own choices. You make your own choices. I shouldn't have to support you. I already support half the welfare families in my state.

I find it amusing that the high income folks which benefited most from the tax cuts would never lower themselves to going door to door in a middle-class neighborhood asking for help, but have no problem demanding the government do it for them.

I don't care if someone that makes more money than me pays more or less taxes!!!>:( I only care abut what I pay but, the left can't think that way because they loose the class envy argument about 'Tax cuts for the rick" argument.

So it's all about you. Typical Republican.

Even thought you were trying to be insulting the "whoosh" button works perfect here!!

The point was you should quit worrying about what some one else is getting because you will always be miserable with envy!!! But I know the lefties don't think anybody works for what they get. They must have been lucky or they are crooks so they must take away what they have and give it to those that don't. (work, or think, or..............)

Please show how the rich got so much benefit...thanks

It's sorta like when the govt. takes something that belongs to you away and then gives it back, it's a benefit. You know, like slowing the growth of a govt. program is a cut. :S:S

Who am I envying exactly? I AM in the top 5% of incomes. Difference is, I don't whine about being in a high tax bracket, and I think people like you and me and gravitymaster and flygurl should be paying more than those in minimum wage jobs.

PS you still have not managed to differentiate between The Rich and those who merely have high incomes.

Neither am I whining but, my point is the Dems do whine about what taxes you are paying. Thier dogma is to get you to whine about what I am paying (if I were "rich)

The big point is taxes are too high for everbody that pays them. We don't get high value for our dollars in my opinion. Too much waste

I don't have a problem paying more than those with a lower income. I already do. What I object to is those with lower incomes attitude that they shouldn't have to pay anything because I can afford to pay for them. I have worked very hard, sometimes 12 to 18 hours a day. When someone working a 40 hour week starts bitching that they want my taxes increased because they are having trouble paying rent, I want to know why they can't get a part-time job.

I'm sure you know the story of George Bernard Shaw who asks a woman if she'd sleep with him for a million dollars. When she says yes, he asks if she'd sleep with him for five dollars, and indignant, she exclaims "What do you think I am?"

"We're already established what you are, ma'am, now we're just haggling over the price."

I think we've established that The Rich should pay more, we're just haggling over the rate.

Nobody is stopping you from paying more taxes than you already do. Just make a check out to the IRS for what you think you should be paying. I'm sure they will be happy to accept it. Oh, thats right, you won't do that unless I'm forced to do it.

I am in total agreement with you rushmc. Ha for once we can agree on something here. And if you think you've got it bad, you should see what it's like up here in Vancouver BC. There are way too many people thinking of themselves as victims of society and that society owes them this or that instead of getting out there and working for it.

I'm not on any specific time line yet, but I'm most likely going to be moving back to Calgary Alberta (if I can't get back to Colorado) because at least there the provincial taxation is the lowest and socially the people are more in tune with what's going on in places like Colorado. It will mean not being able to do any local winter skydiving (including sizeable chunks of the fall and the spring), but at least I'll be able to live in my house (which is close to being paid off), earn a better income and pay less tax than what's going on here in BC, meaning I'll have more expendable income to ... well potential travel for my skydiving fix.

Things are out of control in this city (Vancouver BC). Sure it's a pretty city when it's not raining, but the provincial government has setup a monopoly on the car insurance industry (yes you can only get insured through the government), they have setup a transit authority which has an annual budget of nearly one billion dollars and that's not enough for them. Now this transit authority is proposing a new tax (to be paid by businesses) on every parking spot in the entire city be it on the city streets, mall parking lots and they even proposed grouping a drive-in theater as having taxable parking slots. Don't these stupid beurocrates realize that they risk putting a lot of mom and pop businesses out of business only because their shops are attached to a city street with taxable parking places in front of them.

Some of these tax hungry governments have gone too far. I realize that taxes are here to stay. But these various government levels rarely think of triming their fat and making themselves become more effecient. Instead they just go after he little guy, the citizens and tax the shit out of them. >:(

Absolutely!! I've seen plenty of people that scam the welfare system that are fully capable of working.

It's going to take a libertarian President (hopefully armed with line item veto - that's one thing I'll praise GW for forever if he can push it through) slamming bills back to Congress to even get a start on reining in the size of government.

Certainly neither of the major parties today are interested in it.

Well, that's a whole different issue, and I doubt many will argue with you about that.

From Bush's OMB:

Discretionary Spending in $Billions

2001 2006 2007(proposed)
643.8 843.3 870.7

That's a 35% INCREASE in DISCRETIONARY spending under GWB's administration, with a friendly Congress.

I _do_ do that. You support the war; why don't you pay more? It's all well and good to talk about X, Y and Z, but the real test of someone's convictions are their actions, not their words.

my question was along those lines. I wonder how many republicans would still suport the war if it meant that they had to pay a war tax.

Since some of you think the sun shines from Mr. Bush's ass...why would you not send him more money to satisfy his blood lust?
