bob.dino 1 #26 March 21, 2006 The scientologists are ridiculously litigious. I believe they're also legally classed as a cult rather than a church in Germany.

Probably don't get the same tax breaks a church does though. Personally, I think they should be classified as a scam and treated accordingly Vale
Andy9o8 2 #30 March 21, 2006 Chef (but not Isaac Hayes) to return to South Park!! http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/TV/03/21/television.southpark.reut/index.html My own prediction: Isaac Hayes will sue to prevent the show from using someone else to voice-over "his" character. I'd love to defend these guys if he pulled that one.

brierebecca 0 #32 March 21, 2006 http://www.foxnews.com/printer_friendly_story/0,3566,188463,00.html Interestingly, Hayes may not have quit the show....the cult may have done it for him. This commentary isn't exactly hard news, but it makes sense with Scientology's prohibition against speaking out against the cult.... I love how they use the ending to show they don't give a crap if the Scientologists sue them.

Eiley 0 #35 March 22, 2006 QuoteQuoteDon't think so. Probably don't get the same tax breaks a church does though. Yep. I remember studying the Australian High Court case at uni (in Constitutional Law or Tax Law, can't recall). I do recall it was one of the more interesting cases we studied - the judgment sets out step-by-step the indicia of a 'religion' and different weightings that might be given to them in order to decide whether the 'religious' part of what was then 'The Church of Scientology, Inc' overrode the commercial aspects. From this case, we have a legal definition of religion in Australia: Quotefor the purposes of the law, the criteria of religion are twofold: first, belief in a supernatural Being, Thing or Principle; and second, the acceptance of canons of conduct in order to give effect to that belief... nothing to see here
