Maybe it's her age but all she ever does these days is keep harping on the same subject.

That the US has attacked a foreign nation without being attacked first.

That is not the long standing US defense policy of the last 5 presidents and also is a defeatest policy.

Any country or entity that would want to attack the US would love to have the assurance of a first strike capability

I'm not sure what the rest of your post is saying -- are you saying that we should strike first because other countries want to strike us? What kind of proof should we have? And are you saying that it's defeatist to feel that way, or that other presidents did (or didn't?). I really don't know.

Helen Thomas is by no means perfect, but she has studied and covered presidents since 1960. She probably knows some stuff.
