Here's a tax I support

Recommended Posts

How would they distinguish between legal and illegal immigrants. I mean if they know they are illegal why not just call the INS. Arizona's bill is BS, taxing all outgoing wire transfers. When I was in school in Europe my folks would wire transfer me money, so that mean now they are getting taxed again ontop of Fed and State. It's total BS.

Consider the following, Vinnie:

The year is 2010. This tax is in place and is making the state tens of millions of dollars. A new border-law-enforcement bill comes across the governor's desk. "Hmm. If I sign this, I lose tens of millions of dollars, and I'll have to close those new schools I opened last year. The voters won't like that. Gotta veto it."

Do we really want to give our politicians more incentives to allow illegal immigration?

I don't think that would occur. The voting masses in the border states would have to drastically change their opinions with regards to illegal immigration in order for that to be a politically viable move for any governor. I think it unfortunate that states should have to be involved as much as they are anyway, as federal borders should be a federal problem to be solved. With state assistance/collusion perhaps, but the feds should take the lead there in both funding and personnel.

Possible, but not likely I think.

Two magic words - "Tax cut" (and its opposite, "tax increase.") I know people who stop listening to anything else either candidate says once those words come out of their mouth. Money talks. Can that factor be overcome by people who dislike illegal immigrants? In border towns, yes. But in the rest of the state? I don't know.

And if you make it a federal issue - the words "tax increase" are going to scare a West Virginian a lot more than "illegal immigration." Heck, just close the gate - problem solved!

Why Vinny - we'll make a democrat of you yet! (kidding, I'm kidding, don't go postal on me)

Vinnie, a bureaucrat or politician who may find him or herself losing funding is likely to fight tooth and nail to maintain that funding or get more.

Taxing illegal immigration would create a vast incentive to allow it. It's why government wants smokers - it provides a lot of money into tax coffers.

I think you nailed the reason the govt. hasn't done anything but play lip servive to illegal immigration. I believe once the baby boomers filter thru the system, the US will be bankrupt. We need the illegals paying taxes to support this stupid socialist society we have created.

One of the draw backs to over 30 years of legal abortions it seems. (and before anyone starts whining on about abortion, I have never stated a position on it). (*)

True in most cases, but letting illegals into the country to fund that? I just don't see that ever being a politically viable thing to do.
:)

It already is. Otherwise, they would have shut down the border long ago.
