TheAnvil 0 #51 March 2, 2006 52 million people? Is that how many voted for Kerry? I forget the exact number. 'Tis quite sad. A true testament to the failure of the American education system, the fact that sKerry got so many votes - thanks NEA! You really don't know a lot about conservatives. If you did, you would never make statements like this: Quote Most republicans wouldnt support her either because she is black, she is female, she is a member of the "evil empire" or some other reason. Ridiculous. Funny, but quite ridiculous. I personally don't think military service a mandatory prerequisite to hold political office. Nice and admirable, but certainly not necessary. Though I'd like to see it happen and I think she would be an outstanding candidate and President, I do not believe Dr. Rice will run. Also unfortunate, Jeb Bush will not run either. Of Bush Sr, GWB, and Jeb, the youngest is by far the most qualified to be President. Perhaps he will run later, but now would not be the time to do so politically. It would be good for him to go to Washington as a Senator, get on a cabinet, then perhaps go for the big one as a VP then POTUS. I think Romney or McCain will get the nomination for the Republicans. For the Democrats, Kerry will run and be defeated in the primaries. I'm thinking Bill Richardson would be a good candidate for them, with perhaps Evan Bayh as a running mate. I'd prefer Richardson not be on the ticket as he would be a formidable candidate and I lean hard to the right, but were I a leftie (and I used to be) I'd be rooting for him (Run, Hillary, Run! Or Dean, better still!). If the Republicans put McCain on the ticket, he will win, I believe. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!! If Condie Rice ran, I give that some very serious consideration also. What we need is a real leader who can maybe help restore the country to some form of representative government, instead of one party rule. I suggest Congress start doing it's job by putting the brakes on another runaway President. I also suggest we try to be a little more civil to each other and maybe listen a little more and talk a lot less. Amazon 7 #60 March 2, 2006 I was kinda wondering where Cheneys hand was at, when he was behind Shrub in the State of the Union. I mean he does a fairly credible job with the movement of the moutn but his ventriloquism neds some work... although he has gotten better at it in the second term. rehmwa 2 #61 March 2, 2006 QuoteQuote The Dems are visibly and unabashedly leaning towards that portion of the party, which is why candidates like Kerry are being put out there. No they are not. They are trying to become conservative. In doing so they have abandoned the liberals who made up their base. But the voters on the right whom they are courting are not fooled for one minute by this and will never switch. While they turned their back on the left and failed to get the right, they are left with nothing. That is what has caused their demise. I think most people will agree with Lawrocket and say you got it completely backwards. The dems have been catering toward their extreme fringes so much they've lost the common-sense-democrats of the middle. You also are seeing it now in the Republicans. it's a function of the primaries screening out decent candidates because the loud/shrill fringe groups won't let a centrist through. Maybe a third party (not a fringe party, but a centrist party - fiscally conservative and socially just stays out of people's lives) would have a HUGE impact in 2008. Why not McCain/Rice, or McCain/Lieberman type of personalities (not necessarily those specific people, but people that think that way) running on a well cleaned up Libertarian type of platform? ... mnealtx 0 #62 March 2, 2006 That would be key, I think - a "well cleaned up Libertarian type platform". Neither party is fiscally conservative, that's a given. If the the Libertarians could clean up their platform, I think a LOT of people would move toward it.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. Muenkel 0 #70 March 2, 2006 I was thinking about the gang of 14 in the senate and I thought to myself that it would be really cool if the moderates from both parties said 'fuck you' to the respective parties and joined to create a new one. livendive 8 #72 March 2, 2006 Quote McCain/Powell perhaps? (Powell's too smart to run unfortunately.) I would register as a Republican just so I could vote for them in the primary. I think that would be a landslide ticket, and it would certainly get my ticket. The Republicans would probably lose some votes on the far right, ala Ross Perot, but their gains among moderates would be monstrous. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!"
