About those celebs who said they'd move out of the U.S. if Bush won

Recommended Posts

>They get paid millions to fucking act, they have no credibility, and
>are bunch of idealistic idiots. They're insignificant pricks who everyone
>should pay no attention to.

"Skydivers are a bunch of brainless suicidal thrillseekers. They pull their strings as low as possible and are actually suprised when they die. Then they claim that they're actually SAD to see their friends die! Well boo fucking hoo, what did they expect? Why the hell would anyone listen to them on anything?" (paraphrase of a rant I once read on another board)

Actors are like people everywhere. Sometimes smart, sometimes dumb. The ones I've known have been fairly smart, and have been skydivers, pilots, rock climbers etc. (Well, except for Don; he wasn't so smart.) And given the amount of time people post on here, most actors have jobs that are a lot more real than the people here in Speaker's Corner.

Sure, but when it comes to the "big" actors in hollywood, the vast majority are overpaid whining snobs. They get paid millions to be pampered and act. They bitch when their bottled water isn't the right brand. But on the other hand, some lance corporal in the Marines makes 900 bucks a month and might just die so that actor can freely sit there and complain about water. Give me a break, most of the big time guys are bunch of worthless piles of flesh.

Maybe in some ways, but I'd bet a good majority of people on here have real jobs that I'd think more highly of than being a bitching actor/actress. Just b/c they have the "talent" of role playing doesn't make their job any better or more important than the guy who busts his ass running a trash truck in Chicago.

Let me see if I got this right. You are ranting about what these people had to say and ranting about people who pay attention to what they say??? :S ;)

Don't mistake "being aware that they've voiced opinions publicly with help from the media to get them heard," with "I hung on their every word and will do as they command." That's what I don't like, and as someone said about how if Oprah eschewed toilet paper we should refrain from shaking hands from now on, I get the feeling that plenty of people (ignoramuses, mostly) actually use what they've heard these celebriots say to form their political views.

Trying to catch me in a childish game of, "Oh, so you were 'listening' to them, Jeff?" is pretty silly. You and I both know I don't mean "hearing their voices" the same as "mimicking their ideas."

Well, I agree that celebs' political statements appear to affect some people more than seems logical or reasonable. ;)

Is this where we all get together and hate rich people? Getting paid millions is a sign someone is SMART - that's why they get paid millions. The dumb people sit at home, watch TV and play the lottery.

It's easy to hate rich people, because they have all the stuff other people want. Fortunately, here in the US, all that stuff is there for the taking. Start when you're 12, be a better actor (or basketball player, or CEO) than they are - and you will make more than them. Then people can call you a pampered whining snob, and the world will be in balance again.

Right, and I've met some Marines who are macho elitist racist assholes. I also know a lot who are great people. (Sorta like actors, eh?)

That's right. And by the same token, it doesn't make their job any worse or less important.

No not at all, I have nothing against rich people, in fact I'm probably Captialism's biggest fan. I completely support people who work hard and make millions, I think bill Gates is awesome, etc. My parents are what you would call "rich", I've been very blessed for what I've had b/c of them, but in reality, money doesn't matter, it's doing something good; thus why I joined the military.

It's not that I hate them b/c they're rich, I hate them b/c they get paid an enormous amount of money for something that the actual work effort does not deserve (same w/ pro sports). I love baseball, but arod does not deserve 50 grand a game. But mostly I hate them b/c they have all of this cash, and yet still bitch and moan. They should be elated to have this, many are not and want more. And getting paid millions does not mean you're smart...plenty of dumb people are rich (yes, bring on the Bush jokes everyone:S), including actors.

Yeah there are, but at least they're getting paid shit to die for their country...a bit more "noble" of a job than sitting in a trailer whining about your afternoon massage.

So enough money should make anyone happy? How much money would you need before you stopped complaining about democrats?

>I hate them b/c they get paid an enormous amount of money

The public decides how much actors should be paid. Could hardly get more fair than that.

>They should be elated to have this, many are not and want more.

The ones who are not elated by money, but keep working at what they are good at, are the smart ones.

Look, diss actors all you like, but they are no better or worse than anyone else. Perhaps .01% of them makes the sort of money you are talking about, and perhaps 10% of THEM are complete assholes. You will find that sort of distribution in every single endeavor out there. Business executives, skydivers, professional athletes, computer programmers, doctors. Many people find it easier to hate what they see; familiarity brings contempt, and some people feel they are really, truly familiar enough with the more-famous actors to hate them. I think these people are as silly as the people who worship actors without knowing them. Both are basing their opinions on what they see on a TV screen - and TV executives are masters at presenting what they want you to see, not what really is.

A few actors I've actually met -

Don Swayze - good guy, skydiver and BASE jumper, not always super smart. (Which is why he is now minus a foot.)

Barbara Insley - a rarity; a woman who moved to the big city to become an actor and was actually making it. She did it for a few years, did commercials and bit parts and was starting to move up in the acting community. Then she got sick of it and became a Shiatsu instructor.

Mike Muscat - in Clan of the Cave Bear, Terminator, several other movies. CRW dog, king of the balloon animals, tells horrible jokes, good guy.

Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn - met them one night at the Argus, which is a hole in the wall bar/restaraunt on Brown Field. He was flying his King Air back from Mexico. Seemed like a really nice couple. He spent some time telling us about the fishing, we told him skydiving stories. (I think they were quite sick of skydiving stories by the time their food came.)

Denny Chalker - former SEAL, in several war movies including The Rock. Used to be super serious while he was in the Navy, mellowed out a lot once he got out and started acting.

I base my opinions on actors on people like that. I hope people base their opinions of skydivers on people they have actually met as well, and not on Felix Baumgartner, Shayna Richardson, and Lutz (in other words, the people on TV.) If they did, they would think of skydivers as you think of actors.

In fact I said money is not important. The point is people should be happy w/ what they have, especially if they're very well off and don't have "room" to bitch. And what's w/ the comment about me having money to stop complaining about democrats? That doesn't even make any sense.

In a way, yes. Still doesn't make it cool w/ me.

Dude, I'm not refering to all actors, I'm refering to the guys like Baldwin, Clooney, etc. The guys who have so much money, yet still complain about shit and think they're above everyone else. Much like Sean Penn "helping" people after Katrina...give me a fucking break, the guy was "helping" people for PR and PR alone. What a shitbag.

I will never understand why people get so bent out of shape about celebs with a political message.

It's simply because many celebs are known to be fuckin' whack-jobs with nutty ideas, but because they are famous, and because a bunch of morons in the audience have the right to vote (some quite lamentably), they are capable of having an undue influence on how society governs itself.

One man, one vote is fine. But we are talking about people who attract other people like iron filings to a magnet just by virtue of their celebrity and when they express who they want to win public office, many people will blindly vote that way just because it was their favorite celebrity who said they should.

I just don't feel that this is the way the political system should be working.

I want you to please print that out, tape it to your television, and then watch any movie that stars Freddie Prinz Jr. :S

Or watch Latrell Sprewell play basketball for millions of dollars. Yeah, real intelligent, real good guy. :S
