Iran, Nukes, Allah, and a Fatwah...

Recommended Posts

If anyone was still laboring under the misconception that Iran only wants nuclear energy for energy rather than weapons, a fatwah was issued recently which states that Allah approves the use of nuclear weapons as a 'countermeasure' against those who might threaten Islam. This is a significant change in Shari'a law, which has long held that nuclear weapons were not acceptable to use.

What is most fascinating/frightening is that the fatwah was issued by Mohsen Gharavian, a highly placed leader/follower of the ultra-conservative Ayatollah Mesbah-Yazdi. And he is the cleric most closely associated with...yep, you guessed it...Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The fatwah should lay to rest anyone's misperceptions that Iran only wants "energy" and also establishes their willingness to use nuclear weapons as a countermeasure -note not as a MAD thing, just a countermeasure - and they already have a delivery system capable of reaching Israel and are thought to have a longer range delivery system which could reach Europe.

I wish this weren't the case, but it seems now that the Iranian government has "permission" to use nukes should they be able to get them, without worrying about Allah's getting mad at them, and in fact believe that Allah actually encourages them to use them to protect themselves.

Consider not simply this threat from Iran...but add into the mix the potential terrorists and portable nuclear weapons. This fatwah is rather concerning.

the idiots over there are pushing toward it..

I don't know islam as well as I would like, but I've read a few places that indicate their version of Armaggedon is similar to the Christian one, although with a different "winner." I've even heard that the new President is looking to bring it about, and has felt "chosen" for years.

Decidedly a worrisome event...

GAVercetti, Likearock is right; they are closer to uranium enrichment now than they were before...and with a new president who is accelerating events.

Sigh...

Last summer they hadn't made the strides they've made in uranium enrichment.

That is not what I asked. Does one fatwa cancel another out?

And presumably Khamenei is still Supreme Leader. Thus, he controls the military. So does his fatwa, being the Supreme Leader, overpower a lower ranking holy person's fatwa? Or are they all equal and thus negate each other?
Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

Exciting, ain't it? Too bad hate overcomes the reality of the worst thing since WWII. Meanwhile China licks their chops.

You tell me. We're dealing with a culture that is ready to start World War III over a cartoon but hardly notices when hundreds of it's own people are slaughtered by other Muslims. You expect logic?

Not sure. I don't know enough about Islam to know whose fatwah outranks whom, but I do know that this fatwah was issued by the holy leader the President listens to more closely then Khemeni.

So I don't have a good answer for you...good question, though.

On a side note, someone issued a fatwah with a million dollar price on the head of the cartoonist from Denmark...

just like the whole suicide bombings as a method, some say its bad and some say its good. you chose which suits your desires.

I hope they realize that if they push the red button on the wrong people and place. that there will soon be some VERY radioactive places that used to be muslim capitols... that should cut down on a whole bunch of suicide bombers.

Yeah... the world would probably be in deep $hit if there was some idiot who talks to God on a regular basis with his finger on the nuclear button...

All things considered, i'm more worried about a goverment which have a big stockpile of nuclear weapons and have used it before, then a goverment that might develope the technology to build nuclear weapons.
