bluskidave 0 #1 February 18, 2006 Washinton University student senate nixes a memorial to Gregory "Pappy" Boyington.,An alumnus of the school.Main reason, they shouldn't glorify the Killing". The man was leading Marine ace in WWII,with 28 confirmed aircraft downings. How many American and our ally comrades lives did he save by downing Japanese bombers and fighter aircraft? This would not have happened at my Texas A+M,nor our fierce rival the University of Texas. At UT their flag pole,at the football stadium, is dedicated to Lt.Louis Jordan, the first officer killed in WWI, from UT. I speak of Louis Jordan because he comes from the same town as CINPAC Chester Nimitz.Same town as the current commadant of the U.S Marine Corp, General Michael Hagee. And we did have a President from the area. I'm pissed because these eggheads have no idea of the sacrifice our previous generations went through to allow me to,one post this, and most, the freedom to jump from an airplane. kallend 2,150 #3 February 18, 2006 From one who deals with 18-22 year olds on a daily basis (and has to read their essays): don't get all upset about it. They may be adults in the eyes of the law, but a large fraction of them are still immature, and an overwhelming majority have almost no knowledge of history. It passes. Most of them end up as productive citizens.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
stratostar 5 #4 February 19, 2006 That's BS and sad to hear, I got to meet him and hang out at an airshow we jumped into, he was a neat guy to meet and talk to. ~you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
ViperPilot 0 #5 February 19, 2006 QuoteThey may be adults in the eyes of the law, but a large fraction of them are still immature, and an overwhelming majority have almost no knowledge of history That's pretty much the perfect way to describe the majority of college kids. Most of them are a bunch of idealist who know nothing about the real world, history, common sense, etc. and just spit out the bs rhetoric fed to them by others. I think in the end the majority of those people grow up, figure things out, and stop being a bunch of idiots.

Yet a 'younger' group so easily dismisses his sacrifice and accomplishments as being without merit. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
