warpedskydiver 0 #1 February 17, 2006 Mich. Man Sentenced in Sheep Abuse Case By Associated Press Tue Feb 14, 9:13 PM BATTLE CREEK, Mich. - A man who pleaded no contest to a sodomy charge involving a sheep says he should not have to register as a sex offender. Jeffrey S. Haynes said the state registry is intended to keep track of people who have committed crimes against humans. But Calhoun County Circuit Court Judge Conrad Sindt told Haynes at his sentencing hearing that once he is released from prison, he must register with the Michigan State Police Public Sex Offender Registry. Haynes, 42, of Battle Creek, was sentenced Monday to 2 1/2 years to 20 years in prison. He entered the plea in January. A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing purposes. Tamara Towns, an assistant prosecutor for the county, argued that Haynes should be ordered to register as a sex offender because once out of prison, he could prey on children or vulnerable adults. Haynes said he is not a violent person and would not assault children. "The prosecutor is being real hard on me for what I did," he said. "But I should not be treated as a child molester." A telephone call seeking comment was left Tuesday at the Marshall office of defense attorney John B. Sullivan. Police said Haynes had sex with a sheep at a Bedford Township farm on Jan. 26, 2005. The animal's owner caught him on the property and the sheep was found injured. Haynes was arrested in June after a DNA sample taken from the animal matched Haynes' genetic material. Haynes has prior convictions for burglary, home invasion and uttering and publishing, and was on parole for burglary at the time of the sex crime. Copyright 2006 The Associated Press. I make it 2 crimes. "Home Invasion" - entering a house WITHOUT forcing entry - like a Sneak-In-Theft. "Uttering & Publishing" (forged documents). EG: forging the rightful owners signature on a stolen cheque or a credit card slip. It's not neccessarily a crime to forge a signature, the crime is in pretending that the forged signature is genuine to another person or entity. Mike. Edited to add: LOCK HIM AWAY!... AP • Reuters • Photos Police: Homeless Man Tries to Steal Sheep Feb 22, 8:29 PM (ET) LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A homeless man who police say tried to take a sheep from the Little Rock Zoo has been arrested on numerous charges. A security guard at the zoo called police Tuesday evening after spotting a man carrying a trash can with a sheep in it, a police report said. When officers arrived Grady Allen Carnahan, 32, told them he was a doctor and the sheep was sick. He said he was taking the animal to a veterinary clinic, the report said. Carnahan fought with officers as they were trying to take him into custody, police said. He was arrested on a felony charge of violating an animal facility and on misdemeanor charges of criminal trespass, cruelty to animals, resisting arrest, and theft of property. The animal was returned to its pen at the zoo.Do your part for global warming: ban beans and hold all popcorn farts.
