America; democracy, dynasty, or dictatorship?

Recommended Posts

OK lawrocket, I'll admit that I don't spend enough time re-arranging my pencils in a virtual cubicle at the library of Congress and this is definitely more fun than work, but I will have to comment later on your diatribe.
The NSA dudes in the van outside can't keep up with your brilliant posts - now they have a sign in their window that says "show yer tits". My GF is not amused.
Sorry I accused you both of being members of the republican party, I can understand how that would be offensive, but according to my republican friends it's not so bad.

Gee. I think it was only 45 years ago that there was this certain president from Massachussetts who went by the name of "Jack." He had a younger brother who went by the name of "Bobby," but most people called him "Mr. Attorney General." Their younger brother was named Edward, but others called him, "Teddy" or "Senator Kennedy."

Yes and people managed to shoot MOST of them.. do you think that is an appropriate solution?

In answer to your question, "No."

Now another question - From where in hell did that comment and question come?

As written, it implied that I thought shooting people was an appropriate solution.

True, the Kennedy's are not the dynasty they once were. The Bushes have a better claim to that right now. But, my prior comments were that political dynasties have existed in the past.

No more Adams dynasty. No more Roosevelt dynasty. No more Kennedy dynasty.

Don't worry professor, I just had a chat with the NSA dudes in the van, They are actually pretty cool, they gave me a T shirt that says "I did it in Guantanamo bay"

Hey one of these days I'll catch ya at a DZ and you can either have a free shot at me or we can crack a beer and laugh about this.

I wasn't complaining, just pointing out the error in the prior post. Play by the rules. The President is not elected by the people, the founding fathers didn't trust the people to do it.

Not quite honest way to put it.

The electors are selected by the people, so the people still elect the President, just with an abstraction layer in the middle.

The Electors didn't pick Bush in 2000, 50 million American voters did. While technically little forces the electors to follow their mandate, it's a non issue.

Good boy Kallend, you managed to not pay attention to my post and rattle of the ol' 2000 argument. I said Bush won in popular vote during the 2nd election (2004). I think lawrocket's football analogy was pretty good. Sometimes you may make it to the 1 yd line, get shut down, and are forced to take 3 pts instead of 7. To fucking bad, that's how the games played...no one cares how close you were, or even if you had more rushing yards. When the cards fall as they do in a point based game (or election in this case), and you have less points, you lose! So no, the 1st election was not BS, the cards fell in place for Bush as he took home the bigger states, allowing for more points, much like scoring a TD from the 1yd line while Gore was stopped at the 1yd and forced to go for the field goal. They both got to the 1 yd line, but one took home more points.

Yes Mr. Viper, Mr Rocket and yourself are correct, in any game it is wize to use all of the features of the game to the players advantage. after all the point is to win. That goes for bad ref calls, the weather, an opponents weakness whatever it takes, we get it. The trick is to not get caught cheating. When I say that the Bush dynasty has unprecedented power I take into account the other Washington families, It's just that I postulate that GW got a little help from mommy and daddy via phone calls to judges, Florida officials.....whatever it takes right? Hey, the republicans won, OK enjoy your victory. after all you had to suffer through the Clinton years.

We did not get any sleep...the NSA van was partying all night; loud dico music, people streaming in and out. I- I think they're selling drugs. my tax dollars at work...

Just to make it clear, I am not a Bush supporter. I never voted for him.

I think the SCOTUS was legally correct in what it did. The FL SUpreme COurt rewrote a statute. That's a big giant no no for courts.

I personally don't believe that cheating is the way to go. Perhaps it is the reason why I am developing a decent reputation in town as an ethical lawyer. Part of that is my disturbing tendency to not resort to hyperbole. Part of it is my willingness to say, "I am no salesman." Part of it is my willingness to put my ass on the line to get rid of a fucked up judge.

Got problems wih Bush? I do. Lots of them. BIG ones. But I also have problems with unsupported allegations and opinions. I think the facts are enough to make me dislike Bush. I don't like invective against him, for it tends to make people say, "You're just a hater."

Jesus, we had a post earlier where someone implied that I would accept shooting politicians as an appropriate way to end a dynasty because others would find it appropriate. I find murder unacceptable. I also find the implication that I would accept that because others say it all the time unacceptable.

SHe's right that others say it. And when others spread invective and vitriol, it makes the spreading of facts harder.

Just stick to the facts. The NSA is conducting warrantless searches. And that is bullshit.

Yes, I realize you are not a republican, bush supporter, cheater, or an assassin. Theres nothing wrong with being a supporter of the ruling party anyway as long as you are prepared to defend your choice, which people here do. This thread is not meant to personalize any of this discussion for anyone but Washington officials and their motives.
I started this rant because I was pisseed about all of this NSA bruhaha. we live in an increasingly free world and I just wanted to say my piece as a free individual....and make fun of the NSA. Do all of you realize how rare that is? That we don't live in a constant fucking lockdown? Lets just keep it that way.

Ya mon
Sometimes a bit of vitriol leads to speculation which leads to investigation then results in fact finding which is later converted into what the fuck really happened, then it is distilled by the press packaged and sold back to the voters. I would never want to be a politician...The sheer scrutiny of it all.
