Man, it must be hard being a Democrat...

I mean, I look at recent history and see how much has failed to work out for them...

- They lost the presidential election TWICE

So have the Republicans in 1960 & '64, again in '92 and '96 (to the hated Bill Clinton no less, ha-ha, hee-hee, ho-ho...)

- ...after losing control of Congress

Yeah, Congress comes & goes. The Republicans have lost Congress before & they will again, sooner or later.

- Now there have been not one but TWO U.S. Supreme Court justices selected by BUSH -- and there were ZERO for Clinton, right? Wow.

Wrong, Clinto appointed Justices Ginsberg and Brier. Learn to count.

They just don't seem to be winning at ANYTHING. I don't like them or their policies and beliefs, but I still can vicariously feel that punch-in-the-gut feeling when they lose more and more and more... It's kinda sad...

I think it's sad too. I'm pretty alienated from the Democrats these days, as they defintely haven't got their shit together.

But what do you suggest, a single party state ? America's always had a party representing the conservative interests of the wealthy, first the Federalists, then the Whigs, then the Republicans since the 1850's.

The other liberal point of view has been taken by the anti-Federalists, the Democratic-Republicans, and the Democrats since the 1820's.

Both parties have done this country a lot of good in their own different ways. I don't think we'd have Social Security, or Medicare, or the G.I. Bill, or Civil Rights legislation without the Democrats, the Republicans never wrote any of that and actively opposed all of them.

I don't know how old you are, but I remember back in the sixties and seventies when BOTH parties had men of really great vision for their COUNTRY. Maybe it was because they were from the generation that saved the world from Hitler and they just wanted better for their children. But they were able to work together and for all the screw-ups that happened, they managed to pull some pretty neat rabbits out a hat that you and I both enjoy and pretty much take for granted nowadays.

In 1964 after the LBJ landslide, everyone was questioning whether or not the Republicans could even survive as a party. Obviously they did, but only after taking a good look at themselves and changing things around. The Dems will do that too, they have to. The fortunes of the parties will come and go, such is life in a multi party state.

Unless you really want a one party state. They had one in Russia. Their entire system collapsed because of it too. I don't think you want that either, I sure as hell know I don't want it.

Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

It's a bit illogical for you to launch from, "Jeffrey thinks the Democrats are intellectually and ideologically bankrupt" (a fair summary of my thoughts) to, "Jeffrey seems to want a one-party state"! :|

Why do you think that the one follows logically the other?

Sure, the Democrats have to reinvent themselves. But won't that mean they actually aren't "the Democrats" anymore anyway?

I mean, you either believe what you say or you don't. You either believe in your policy and ideology or you don't. Democrats believe in the ideat that gun control equals crime control (a pathetic fallacy), and that government will, if given enough control and power, solve all the problems facing a society. How on earth do you think they can "find their way" and "reinvent themselves" if they don't continue to believe in those ideologies?

I think that the long and the short of it is, if Democrats remain true to themselves and their beliefs, they will be out of step with what the American people want, and they will continue to lose elections, and lose influence on where the country is headed.

By using the word 'Democrats', I am assuming you mean all Democrats. The way I see it today is that the Democratic party is splintered. You have the far left really getting their message out while the moderates are not reacting fast enough. The Republicans are also splintered, but not to the same degree. Until the Dems get more united, they are going to have trouble.

With that said, I do not believe the Republicans have the '06 elections in the bag. The Abramoff scandal can do some serious damage.

In November, if the hot-button issues are foreign policy then it's good for the Republicans. If they are domestic policy, then it's good for the Dems. The way things look right now, I would bet on foreign policy.

I agree with you. I do think that we are ready for a realignment of political parties. But I also think that the American system allows for more individuality and dissent within political parties, as opposed to the parliamentary system.

Plagiarism?

The first time I ever heard that said, it was by a friend of mine in high school, in 1988 or so.

Who'm I supposed to have stolen it from? You??

I don't question God, I question Man's representation of God!

Man's representation of god is all you know of god. Think about that.

And if you assert that you go by your own internal, true, personal representation of god, then consider that that's probably what guided all the others to make their representations of him to you -- and you claim that theirs are false!

Excuse me, but that is my signature line! I did not ask you to coment on that. Who the fuck do you think you are! You fucking think you know everything. Mind your own business about my religious beliefs. I am aloud have my own beliefs and question mans thoughts on it. Just like they can question me. But i never asked for your opinion on this. So go start another ignorant thread on religion and we can make comments in that one.

One doesn't need to be very clever, or waste much time and effort, to figure out what Swift he's talking about.

I KNOW!! I KNOW!!!

Franklin Swift, 1964 deli owner, Bronx New York.

Am I right?;)

LOL :D
BTW, I can virtually guarantee you that no deli owner in the Bronx in 1964 could possibly have had a name like "Franklin Swift". Moe Greenberg? Yeah. Rocco Barzini? Yeah. Franklin Swift? Not very likely.

I find it very amusing that y'all are having such a good time making fun of someone for not knowing something.

Very big of you. You say kallend is an old guy? (Someone said it.) Why then is he acting like he's in grade school?

Probably because it is pissing you off. And this is the internet. And we are amused easily.

Carry on.

Pretty easy to actually look up too. Oh and the thing kelpdiver just said too.

But I still put my money on because it pisses you off for his reasons.

Actually the ‘Sleazeball’ in Chief nominated, and the Senate confirmed Steven Breyer and Ruth ‘Buzzy’ Ginsberg.

Aside from that – an accurate account of the Dimocrats agenda
