happythoughts 0 #1 January 29, 2006 If you take the mysticism out of it, it does make some sense. All the people in one year have common characteristics because they had common experiences. Example. All the people who grew up in the US during the Great Depression will probably be more frugal. People that grew up in the 40s are more patriotic. The 50s, more optimistic. A 12 year cycle is probably too short, but I'll bet it was originally tied to an agricultural phenomenon of some sort. Most mysticism is. The pace is picking up too. When some inventions hit the mainstream of society, they are having massive impacts on society. "The Pill" (60s), computers (80s), the internet (90s). The Western horoscope structure is pretty baffling. If applied to the 1 billion Chinese, 80 million people will have a bad hair day or some such prediction ? RhondaLea 4 #2 January 29, 2006 It's tied to the lunar cycle, which takes 12 years to complete: http://www.ofesite.com/spirit/chinese/origin.htm And here's an explanation of the origin and history of astrology, generally: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/02018e.htmIf you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from.
