But one must never let his guard down, because it remains ever possible. It may be sooner or it may be later, but it is always possible as an eventuality.

So you can't give up the means you would use to overthrow it, or else once it happens, it's permanent.

What the Warsaw Ghetto demonstrated, much to the contrary of your rather ignorant take on it, is that if a HANDFUL of guns could seriously mess with the occupiers' safety from being killed by their captives, imagine if HUNDREDS, or THOUSANDS of those Jews had had access to guns.

You're pointing out that they failed, eventually, to overcome their oppressors. But that is precisely because they were not able to get enough people armed and fighting soon enough. They were known to have used some measly, found-somewhere guns to kill Nazi guards and capture better guns; but there were far more captive Jews than there were guns, or Jews willing to use them. That's why they failed.

Imagine a prison in your country or mine, and of 10,000 inmates, 16 have guns and want to take over and escape. And there are hundreds of guards. Easy enough to put the inmate uprising down (especially if you're willing to gas the inmates as a whole population). Not so easy to kill them all if half, or three-quarters of those 10,000 inmates had guns.

So would you say that guns are proved useless because 16 out of 10,000 prison inmates can't overcome hundreds of guards and free 10,000 inmates, neglecting to consider what would probably happen if 6,500 of those inmates had guns and the will to use them?

Bingo. The groups in this country that favor gun control tend to favor big government, with lots of interference and social programs for all. They see government control as a panacea for all ills. Some of them believe that all people have the same desire for peaceful co-existence that they have. Criminals are victims of society that never got a fair chance to succeed.

Gun rights groups like to think that they have a broader view of history and a more realistic view of human nature. They tend to be "do-it-yourselfers", realizing that self-defense is neccessary in any society of men. They believe the axiom that "Absolute power corrupst, absolutely." They would rather live in a society where the government fears the people, than where the people fear the government.

A racial slur is a racial slur.

I suppose that since 6 million Jews, sometimes called "kikes" or "hebes" pejoratively, were killed by the Nazis, they have the right to call blacks "niggers" until as many blacks die at the hands of oppressors as did Jews?
