The sort of truce I'm thinking of is along the lines of "you stop attacking us, and prove it over the course of X months, and we'll stop blowing you up so often - AFTER the X months." Thats worked so well between Israel and the Palestinians. What makes you think it will work with OBL?
Sen.Blutarsky 0 #27 January 19, 2006 QuoteQuoteWe pull out of Muslim territory and AQ floods the vacuum we leave. Who said anything about pulling out of Muslim territory? OBL has. It would be swell if he is willing to abandon that position. I tend to doubt he would agree to relinquish his claims to Muslim exclusivity in the territories though. QuoteThe sort of truce I'm thinking of is along the lines of "you stop attacking us, and prove it over the course of X months, and we'll stop blowing you up so often - AFTER the X months." OBL has been reduced to a figurehead role now apparently. If his operational commanders and AQ affiliates would agree to cease their attacks, and they actually followed through, then your deal might be a very good one for the West indeed. Blutarsky 2008. Channman 2 #28 January 19, 2006 > Could they be hiding something, such as that maybe OBL was not available to make the recording??? There have been several reports and several articles written that OBL passed away from Kidney Failure last year. > I suspect that the lack of video & poor sound quality of the tape is there to hide something. I agree, and it might be that the bastard is dead.

Michele 1 #32 January 20, 2006 A few things I've heard discussed today about the tape. 1. The voice has been authenticated by the CIA, according to many news outlets...so it is something that we can reasonably be sure is him. 2. It seems, from some of the linguists I've heard discussing this, that OBL did not write the entire speech, and that some one, likely an egyptian, is the second writer. Zawahiri is egyptian, iirc. 3. The timing of the written speech is likely not in the last few days; i.e., not as a result of the Pakistani strike. There is no mention of that, and the items which are mentioned happened in late November and/or December '05. 4. And this, to me, is a very interesting point...the "truce" OBL/AQ is asking for is not a truce, when you consider it's terms. What he/they are asking for is a surrender...get out of Iraq and Afghanistan, and we will not attack you. That isn't a truce, per se...rather, it's more of a conditional demand for surrender. It's very interesting, what's happening. I again assert that OBL is a wily sob, and can play the media like a violin. He is very current in his comments (which is why we can date them to a reasonable degree of certainty), and pays attention to Mainstreet, USA. That's who he's addressing, not the government. He's talking to us. Just some thoughts... Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

That may well happen. At which point we go back on the offensive, and nothing's new - other than we have Bin Laden and some of his higher-ups in custody. And that's a big plus in my book. SpeedRacer 1 #34 January 20, 2006 Osama isn't so stupid as to not consider that possiblity. I doubt he would agree to any face-to-face meeting for that very reason. Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------

Again, it doesn't matter if he's in a jail cell, or a coffin, or a courtroom, or even a glass box (see Osama for $1! All proceeds go to the western christian porn association.) What matters is he's not organizing terrorism.
