That's really it, it's not just guns, it rights and freedoms.

The discussions on self-defense and crime, etc are red herrings and just 'other' straws to grab at because they are more intuitive to understand for those that don't really understand what freedom is about. Also more fun to discuss since they are more substantial to debate.

This is a property rights issue mainly. This is a freedom's issue where we want to government to but out in an area that doesn't matter. This is about government taking away a right where removing it doesn't fix the real problems.

But it's easier to laugh at JR and call him obsessed and kooky. I think he's not obsessed about guns, but rather about freedoms - in an obstinate sort of way. And that's admirable, much more than mocking a fellow jumper and friend. If his topic was speech instead of guns, the same group picking at him would be standing right there.

Yeah, its about preparedness more than paranoia, but I prefer the latter.

Americans are just upset that their policemen dont hand out candy to people leaving nightclubs.

Sounds crazy but its a decent example of how the UK police think (vs Boston's awesome military force)...

Crime stats showed clearly that in Bournemouth, Dorset the majority of fights and disturbances occur after the night clubs have closed in the vicinity of fast food establishments. Since so few are open you tend to get ALL club goers creating very long lines, full of drunk and potentially hostile people who are hungry and drunk.

Solution? The town sponsers handouts of candy bars and snacks to post-clubbing drunkards.

Between a snickers and a pepperball in the face I'm taking the snickers.

Like cake or death, but real.

It'll be interesting to see if the pilot program gets a positive result.

Of course, most Americans simply shoot wild game on their way home (because they all drive drunk as fuck here!!! bastards!) and let it slowcook on the hood of their car.
