John Stossel Comentay "The 10 Media Fed Myths"

Recommended Posts

This is terrible news reporting. He refutes strongly held myths with no facts. For instance the one about forests....he gives a number of how much we had years ago and then says "but we have more now" and never backs it up. With just a short bit of research several of his baseless claims could be refuted.

Stossel doesn't report anything - he strives to be contrary to piss people off. It gets them to listen and gets him the ratings he wants.

I don't have time right now - got too much going on. However, if you can't realize that this is a fluff news piece, it won't matter anyhow. Most list format reporting like this is a way to avoid the details that true reporting requires. It caters to the short-attention span individuals that want their information and opinions spoon fed to them. It amuses me that people feel this is 'news' just because it has a dissenting opinion from some popular cultural beliefs. I've seen better news reporting in Readers Digest than this drivel.

uh-huh. it's pretty obvious to me you don't know much about stossel or his reporting, based on that sophomoric response. [:/]

New reporting? Who said that? You MAY want to look at what the piece is defined as.

I will give you a hint. It starts with 'Com' and ends in 'mentary'.
Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

Have seen him report for many years. Also have worked in the media and know those who have worked along side him.

Commentary's that are given the medium and bandwidth are still a form of reporting.

then I retract my remark about not knowing much about him... however, i do find it interesting that you have come out so strongly against him. i've looked at his stuff, read his book, which I believe is referenced w/ sources and footnotes (but I don't have it in front of me just now), and I don't see a lot of holes in his work.

perhaps there's a connection that you've worked in the "business" and the title of this thread.

Oh, now I think I know why you don't like him, he doesn't fit into a Liberal mold.

I love John Stossel. His book Give Me a Break is an eye opener about a lot of things. He's wise beyond his years.

He's made some major missteps in becoming "wise beyond his years."

I never liked him. And there's one thing in particular that he did many years ago--I can see short clips of the news reports in my head, but I can't remember the topic...whatever it was, he sucked.

As for colds...cold does not cause a cold, but becoming chilled weakens one's immune system, making one more susceptible to cold germs.

Also, I really loved the one about how money doesn't buy happiness. There are many more people in this world with incomes below $30k (much less $50k) than there are above. How friggin' elitist can you get?

I don't have time for every criticism I'm inclined to make, but I think he's mostly full of shit.
