billvon 3,132 #1 December 24, 2005 Merry christmas everyone! As each of us celebrates in his/her own way over the next few days, perhaps we could remember that there's a lot more that binds us together than drives us apart - especially when we don't go out of our ways to find those differences. In the meantime here's a picture.

lurch 0 #5 December 24, 2005 Bill... Thank you for not destroying that lifeform. I'm not a treehugger, if I need to build a house I chop a tree... But the totally pointless mass destruction of one of nature's better lifeforms always depressed the hell out of me this time of year. Something about a dying lifeform killed, decorated for amusement while it dies and discarded in the trash later always struck me as both horribly bleak and disrespectful. You're going to a lot of trouble to celebrate with a tree without killing it. Thank you. -BLive and learn... or die, and teach by example.

Scoop 0 #10 December 24, 2005 The ones we buy say they replace at least one tree for every one removed. Plus, do you know how fast these babies grow!? People use them to block light out of feuding neighbours houses by planting them at end of gardens. Hehehe

Lindsey 0 #23 December 24, 2005 I always thought that was a poor way to handle what is supposed to be a symbol of eternal life and rebirth. Yeah....we went synthetic a few years ago. I miss the uniqueness of each year's tree though. A live tree's a great alternative if you can keep it alive. Whenever I've tried to keep one alive, it's dried up right there in my living room :( (This might really turn into a divisive thread if we're not careful....and cheerful. ) linz-- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. shropshire 0 #24 December 24, 2005 Talking of symbols of rebirth.... Have you ever heard of the Catalan (Spanish) tradition of the caganer (pooing) figures used in traditional Nativity scenes? They are believed to fertilise the earth and bring good luck and prosperity....... N.B They even have one this year for George Bush .. clicky (.)Y(.)
