Merry christmas everyone! As each of us celebrates in his/her own way over the next few days, perhaps we could remember that there's a lot more that binds us together than drives us apart - especially when we don't go out of our ways to find those differences.

In the meantime here's a picture.

Nice tree. Is it real?

Yep, and in a pot so we can plant it outside after christmas. Pines in general have a problem growing in Socal, but we will see.

You need to borrow my GF. She's a Master Gardener and she will get you fixed up real quick. You should see my yard in the Spring. We actually have people driving by and stopping to look. Is the soil really sandy where you are?

Bill... Thank you for not destroying that lifeform. I'm not a treehugger, if I need to build a house I chop a tree... But the totally pointless mass destruction of one of nature's better lifeforms always depressed the hell out of me this time of year. Something about a dying lifeform killed, decorated for amusement while it dies and discarded in the trash later always struck me as both horribly bleak and disrespectful. You're going to a lot of trouble to celebrate with a tree without killing it. Thank you.

I would like to have that nice little Plasma TV under my own Xmas tree tonight :) ...

We can do that for you... I've looked at the pic and you can see that there's nobody at home. All we have to do now is find out where the house is...!

Best wishes for this special time of year & I hope Y'All get all you wish for.:)

I always thought that was a poor way to handle what is supposed to be a symbol of eternal life and rebirth.

Yeah....we went synthetic a few years ago. I miss the uniqueness of each year's tree though. A live tree's a great alternative if you can keep it alive. Whenever I've tried to keep one alive, it's dried up right there in my living room :(

(This might really turn into a divisive thread if we're not careful....and cheerful. :o)

Talking of symbols of rebirth....

Have you ever heard of the Catalan (Spanish) tradition of the caganer (pooing) figures used in traditional Nativity scenes? They are believed to fertilise the earth and bring good luck and prosperity....... N.B They even have one this year for George Bush .. clicky

Just a symbol, like a flag. Not the real thing.
