What happened to Hitler ...

... asked to remove it :(

How about trying a Hermann Goering Avatar? OK, he was a Fat, Drug-Crazed, Psychotic, Sociopathic, Transvestite... But that doesn't neccessarily doesn't neccessarily make him a bad person as a jump plane pilot!

And... IM(nv)HO, He could pilot a mean jump plane!:D

What happened to the Hitler avatar? I thought that one was pretty funny

some people felt the need to cry like little babies to the mods, i was asked to remove it :(

That's a shame. I understood the sarcasm you were communicating with it and thought it quite funny. It worked for you because the idea of superimposing Hitler onto the class clown was a really clever thing.

You were not sending a hate message; you were sending a funny message. I guess some people can't take a joke.

By the way, you're humor is getting pretty clever at times. You've give me a couple of great laughs recently--thanks.

Walt

i thought a Hermann Goering was a salad? :P

Not quite... He was ALLEGEDLY frequently tossed...:$...but perhaps we shouldn't delve too deeply into that particular aspect of his upright, famously Aryan life!

i think i'll alternate my avatars once a week to keep people on their toes :)

How about a comp to name what that person would do if he was at a DZ?:P

I agree with that. Why do you not want to leave people alone so they can talk trash about "those damn Yemenis" or whatever?

Well, words have power to influence Walt.

If all you're saying is that "I hate Yemenis" it's one thing. If you start saying that "all Yemenis are rapists, pedophiles, murderers, abortion doctors, , eventually one of those people who find it impossible to stand on a slippery slope is going to go out and get him a Yemeni.

It's not Rhonda who says this is true, it's history.

So you can dislike whomever you please, and it's no big deal, but when your dislike turns into a goad to persecution, you've crossed the line.

Intense dislike and even hatred aren't pathological. Backing them up with action most certainly is, and standing by while it happens is just as bad.

rl

Edited to add: It is irrational to be afraid of or to hate someone just because they belong to a particular racial, ethnic, sex, yada, yada, yada group. (Such groups to be defined as "natural" vs. a group like the AMA or the Ku Klux Klan, which are based on common interests or a common profession.) You're welcome, of course, to explain to me why a dislike of a specific person or persons should reasonably become a dislike of all persons belonging to that group, but I don't think you can make a good case for it.

NO! What I'm saying is that Xenophobia (as it shows in race / religion / sexuality hatred) should not be treated simply as a crime to be punished. consideration should ALSO be given to counselling, educating and exposing such Xenophobes in an attempt to cure their irrational fear & hatred. Or do you think we should just lock 'em all away? Just punish them?

I don't see that they should be punished either, UNLESS they commit a crime.

Consider the ridiculous "war on drugs" in the US. One of the big rationalizations for throwing drug users in jail is that "drug addicts steal". In my mind they should just throw 'em in jail for the stealing. Is the drug use a causative factor? It might well be, but the act of using the drug does not hurt anyone. The stealing does.

Same goes for what you term xenophobia. I don't see where hating groups of people for arbitrary reasons hurts anybody or anything. Might it cause violent acts? It might, but in itself, I don't see where it hurts anyone. Once someone crosses the line and hurts someone, they need to pay the price. I personally don't give a shit what their motivation was to hurt the person. It doesn't matter. What matters is that they hurt someone.

This train of thought figures into my thoughts on "hate crime" legislation also. Is a murder more heinous because some sort of ethnic hatred was involved? I don't think it does. IMO claiming that it does is absolutely spitting on the concept of "equal protection under the law".

YOUR example is self-admittedly an assumption! You have no knowledge of my experiences but you appear to ASSUME they are as limited as yours.

What does ASSUME make?

It was a contrived example to illustrate a point and I stated my assumptions explicitly, whereas you seem to hide behind your own self-righteousness. You still didn't answer the questions, did you? I'm quite open about my experiences and my opinions and my assumptions. Try it sometime. I dare you.

... arrogant ... hypocrisy I ... liberal pinheads... your view of how things should be ... just makes you a sugar-coated Hitler. Sieg Heil, my friend.

Best Wishes to our Victory indeed... My friend.

Mike.

IMO, one of the most beautiful things about people is the wide diversity of points of view. You wish to make the world a smaller place by eliminating some points of view that you don't like. That doesn't make make you a person of high ideals, in my view. It just makes you a person you cannot appreciate all the differences that the world has to offer.
