The Senate does the right thing

No, because of the excuses that will come when a terrorist attack happens because dumbass politicians have chosen to politicize our national security. You suppose it's coincidence that many attacks have been prevented over the last few years? Or do you trust your life to luck?

Are you suggesting they've been prevented by not allowing grandmothers to take fingernail files on airplanes, or Medal of Honor recipients to take their medals?

You need to read Ben Franklin over again, until you understand.

kallend wants another hit I guess. Then Bush will take the blame and we can get a Kerry president. So the following is what he must want to happen.

from NewsMax

TAKEN FROM A CNN REPORT

Lost in yesterday's Senate debate and eventual rejection of most of the Patriot Act was one salient fact. Since its inception, the measure has foiled at least three terrorist attacks of 9/11 proportions against the U.S. - and seven other attacks in nations of close allies around the globe.

Earlier this year, the White House detailed the chilling al Qaida plots foiled during the four years the Patriot Act was in full force - plots that would have likely proceeded undetected until their final execution, under the kind of rollback the Senate passed on Friday.

According to a CNN report in October, the list of plots foiled thanks to the Patriot Act includes:

The West Coast Hijack Plot:

In mid-2002 the United States disrupted a plot to use hijacked airplanes to attack targets on the West Coast of the United States. The plotters included at least one major operational planner behind the 9/11 attacks.

The East Coast Hijack Plot:
In mid-2003 the United States and a partner disrupted a plot to use hijacked commercial airplanes to attack targets on the East Coast of the United States.

The Jose Padilla Plot:
In May 2002 the United States disrupted a plot that involved blowing up apartment buildings in the United States. One of the alleged plotters, Jose Padilla, allegedly discussed the possibility of using a "dirty bomb" inside the United States. Bush has designated him an "enemy combatant."

The British Urban Bombing Plot:
In mid-2004 the United States and partners disrupted a plot to bomb urban targets in Britain.

The Heathrow Airport Hijack Plot:
In 2003 the United States and several partners disrupted a plot to attack London's Heathrow Airport using hijacked commercial airliners. The planning for this alleged attack was undertaken by a major operational figure in the 9/11 attacks.

Another British Bombing Terror Plot:
In the spring of 2004 the United States used intelligence gathered under the Patriot Act to disrupt a plot to conduct large-scale bombings in Britain.

Four additional attack plots detailed by the White House targeted U.S. interests in the Middle East.

Now that the Patriot Act has been gutted by the Senate, however, plots like those cited above will presumably proceed to their successful completion.

Ahh yes, like the infamous case of the Florida Quakers, a notoriously violent group, and the case of the San Jose Putt Putt facilities that would clearly have been destroyed by the stinking anti-american forces of evil, if it hadn't been for the "not technically illegal" acts of the executive branch.

In reference to the "spying" story..........

It will fun watch how far down your throat you stick your foot until you research (or the main media decides they have to report) the "rest of the story".

Waiting with baited breath:)

Oh, and don't ask for the info it from me! You don't believe anything I post anyway:S I have faith you can find it......should you choose to do so.......

i actually agree with kallend anout the senate doing the right thing. (on an unralated note, a pig just flew by my window.) Whilw not all of the patriot act is bad, there are some very bad things in it. I specifically speak of the "sneak and peak". this is where a law enforcement agency can break into your home and bug it by signing there own search warrent. if this happens to you, you are also not allowed to tell anyone, not even your lawyer. this is not ok, no matter what the threat. the patriot act was a kneejerk reaction to 9/11. our lawmakers knew that at the time which is why it had an expiration date. its time to go back to the drawing board and give law enforcement the tools they need to keep us safe while preserving our civil liberties. imo, taking away rights of americans in the name of "security" is unamerican and not in keeping with the principles upon which this country was founded.

Yeah, Kallend. That's all the Patriot Act does. It was just put in place to inconvenience little old ladies and those who play with model rockets. :S

On Jan 1 we will be at the Quakers' mercy! Bow to their will or they'll, umm, offer us tea and talk to us about the virtue of inner spirituality or something equally heinous!

I only wish I could be as funny as these FBI agents

I guess they weren't kidding about obtaining library records.

:(

Every taxpayer dollar spent on bogus feel-good security measures is one less dollar available for real security.

I wonder how much time and money has been wasted and aggravation caused by airline passengers' nail scissors.

You are correct, the act was a knee jerk reaction to a desperate situation, and would have passed no matter who was in office. It's now time to review and modify the act. Being a cigar smoker, I've always been amazed that my cigar cutters with stainless steel razor sharp blades have never come in question when passing thru security.

Neither the dem-dummies nor re-pukes seem to have answers, but only challenge each others decisions, I'll be shocked when either party comes up with viable solutions to our problems instead of trying to rip each other apart. When looking for what is wrong, you find only wrong things!!

This has nothing to do with what we are discussing. Trading freedom for temporary security is not the same as trading some of the freedom of a few people to save the lives of perhaps hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions. You act as if the govt. even has the resources to spy on the entire population.

Suppose you were in a bank that was being robbed and when the police showed up the bank robbers tried to hide among the innocent people to make their escape. Would you consent to a search if by doing so, it would mean the robbers would be caught? I'm guessing the answer is yes. You would be willing to give up a little freedom if it meant apprehending the robbers.

So lets take it one step furthur. If you attend a concert for you favorite musical group, your bags are searched as a matter of policy. You can be refused entrance unless you willingly submit to an illegal search of your possessions. Again, I'd be willing to bet you have voluntarily given up some of your rights in the past if it meant the difference between gaining entrance or being rejected.

So we see that almost all of us are willing to, on a temporary basis, give up a little freedom, if we feel it is justified, or if the reward is great enough. Most see no problem with the government requiring you to submit to a search before getting on an airplane if it means preventing someone from boarding with a weapon or a bomb and are willing to give up a little of their freedom to fly, board a train etc (which is not a right, by the way, anymore than you have the right to go to a concert).

So the real question isn't "are you willing to give up your rights for temporary security." It's "are you willing to allow the government to investigate those they have identified as being a potential threat to your life if it means saving perhaps hundreds of thousands of lives".

I can only assume that you were not politically aware during the Nixon presidency, or you would not post such claptrap.

This administration has carried off the coup that Nixon failed to achieve, cheered on by you and your ilk.

"1984" has arrived, just a couple of decades late.

Ahhh....me and my ilk have been plotting this for so long. It's good to see our plan for world dominence moving forward at such a frantic pace. The last secret PNAC meeting went exceptionally well and we are preparing to move on to the mind-control phase. The first step will be to arrrest, imprison, and torture all college professors. Especially them dissident ones.

muhahahaha.......................
