tbrown 26 #51 December 4, 2005 I was raised Catholic and we were taught in the first grade that suicides go to hell for committing the "sin of despair", i.e. despairing in God's grace to make anything in their life better. Used to be that the Church wouldn't allow suicides to be buried in hallowed ground, they had to be buried outside the cemetary walls. That's what I was taught anyway. Since then, I can't actually think of anyone I've known who's committed suicide. I had a friend once who discovered his roomate after the roomate had hung himself (happens every year right after exams at some of the big universities, like this one did). We even had a jumper who disconnected her Sentinel (an early model AAD) and never pulled. The Coroner ruled it a suicide based on testimony about other things that had gone wrong in her life, that and disconnecting the AAD, which took some effort. Then when my brother was dying of cancer, I had to wrestle with the very real possibility that he might take his own life, he was certainly armed to the teeth and could've done it very easily (he didn't though, the cancer took him). I'm not Catholic anymore and believe that God alone judges people's hearts, minds, and intentions. I believe God judges EVERY person as He sees fit, whatever the cause of their deat (and we all die) or how that person lived. It's not for us to say. The Bible says we'll be surprised at who we find in heaven, so I'll leave it to God and not try & second guess Him. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! BillyVance 35 #56 December 5, 2005 In church this morning the lay pastor's sermon was about Grace. One segment talked about having Grace when times are hard and people are suffering. If you take the suffering and bear it through, God will take care of you afterwards... Granted, I don't know where the suicides go..."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

Falko 0 #58 December 5, 2005 Everyone goes to the same place after their death... what- or whereever that may be. Could be heaven, could be nowhere. I don't know. What I believe is that the only "hell" that does exist is the one we've created here on earth by feeding narrow-minded religious constructs into our fellow humans to beat them into submission instead of encouraging them to look for the answers inside them. It's all about power! Don't let anyone fool you with this "good people go to heaven, bad people go to hell" crap! The fact that you asked your question tells me that you're in the scare-trap already. Look for the answer inside you, don't listen to anyone here... including me. Does that make sense? my 2 cents for what it's worth... Ich betrachte die Religion als Krankheit, als Quelle unnennbaren Elends für die menschliche Rasse. (Bertrand Russell, engl. Philosoph, 1872-1970)
TheBachelor 5 #59 December 5, 2005 Even if suicide was considered a sin, sinning does not preclude people from going to heaven. If it did, there would be very few people there. Jesus Christ died for the sins of mankind, and if someone accepts Jesus Christ as their lord and savior, then they would go to heaven. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...
jeiber 0 #60 December 6, 2005 QuoteI wanna know what you or your religion believes and why I heard this rumor that God loves everybody equally, and he'll grant forgiveness if you ask for it. There ya go! Everyone goes to heaven; all you have to do is ask! JShhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!
freethefly 6 #61 December 6, 2005 QuoteI wanna know what you or your religion believes and why Well, there you go. So many good opinions yet not one good right answer. Whether a person transcends to "heaven" or descends to "hell" cannot be answered directly as the only true way of knowing is by dying and going one way or the other. That is my opinion and one good answer ."...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black."
