Enrique 0 #1 November 26, 2005 Yes, I know someone is going to come back with a "don't you know about bear population control?" reply, but I am one of those people that think that game animals are at a disadvantage when they face a .444 caliber bullet. So... my high five goes out to this this bear.

christelsabine 1 #4 November 26, 2005 Thank you, John. Perhaps, it's only me. I refuse to kill just for fun. Bears are not on my list of animals which should be killed just for fun or b/c hunting season is open on them. How many of these creatures did you kill until today? downwardspiral 0 #5 November 26, 2005 I was surfing through the channels one night only to come upon a man standing very still, camo'd head to toe, and drawing back a compound bow. My next thought was...."what the hell is this guy hunting that has him so scared?" Well about 40 feet away was a resting grizzly bear. What a nut! Hunting a grizzly with a bow and arrow?!?! WTF. Then to my shock and horror, the guy decides he wants to get closer. He moves slow, steady, and with the silence of a ninja. Even still the grizzly gets spooked a couple times and lifts its head up to look and sniff around, freezing the guy in his tracks. Finally the guy decides he is close enough at 15 feet, draws back, takes steady aim, and releases. Perfect shot! Right in the heart. The grizzly jumps up and sprints right at the guy. Fortunately, due to his camo, the grizzly didn't really see him and missed by about 6 inches. It ran on for 100 yards before it finally collapsed and drew its last breath. I don't hunt because I can't see the fun in killing a defenseless animal at 200 yards with a highpowered rifle. However I can appreciate what I saw that guy do. Not saying I'd be interested in doing it but I do appreciate it.www.FourWheelerHB.com

christelsabine 1 #7 November 27, 2005 Yes, JohnRich, I have my principles. Even they might be based on my own subjective opinions. Killing the "Big Five" is nothing I'd ever like to do. I had and will have chances for hunting them. But never ever would be able to kill a lion, f.e. Killing such a beautiful, powerful animal like a bear also would be impossible to me. I just was happy to see one from a distance some weeks ago while visiting Canada. I have no problems of killing bambi. Or its mother. No, first his mother.... Not at all. That might explain I am simply biased. Perhaps as we do not have those wonderful creatures like a Black Bear in our little country. Perhaps as I just follow the hunting regulations in my hunting area, where a certain number of animals has to be shot. Perhaps as bambi and his mother are to be found everywhere here. But not a single bear. I fully noted that hunting this bear was allowed in that place. So I have to give up discussing this matter as I have no arguments. What do you have to pay for shooting a bear? My brother-in-law 2 yrs ago paid A LOT for killing a Polar Bear. Christel dudeist skydiver # 3105
airtwardo 7 #8 November 27, 2005 I have hunted 'game' animals a time or two, and have no issues with people that do it.... BUT! Does anyone else think it's a little weird to flip through the channels and see a whole network devoted to old fat guys covered in deer piss 'hiding' in a tree stand with a camera crew...waiting all morning to ambush a deer that's checking out the salt lick 'strategically' placed 50 yards from the road where they parked their Escalade??? That's not 'hunting' or even 'harvesting game' as they so eloquently call it...that's just sick! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

You didn't answer my question: Why do you kill? If hunting isn't supposed to be fun, then why do all those photos of hunters posing with their game always show big smiles on their faces? So you won't kill lions and bears. But you will kill deer. What criteria do you use to determine which animals are acceptable to kill, and which are not? You said you won't kill bear because they are "beautiful and powerful". Well, lots of game animals fit that category. Even deer...
JohnRich 4 #10 November 28, 2005 News:Alabama: A deer hunter was bitten on the knee by a black bear. "I just knew I was a goner," Scoggin said. Scoggin said he was near the end of a deer hunt when he heard a grunt. "By the time I saw her and she saw me, up the tree she came," he said. Scoggin, who said he was at least 30 feet up a pine tree in a climbing tree stand, hung onto the seat of the stand, his safety harness unhooked. The bear climbed up the tree, bit him on the right knee, he said, and wouldn't let go. "She was hanging onto the meat, and I was hanging onto the seat," Scoggin said. "When that meat gave way, she fell to the ground, and I got my pistol around." Scoggin said the bear started to climb the tree again when Scoggin shot it four or five times with a .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol. The bear fell to the ground a second time, and Scoggin said he fired a fatal shot with his deer rifle.Source
