likearock 2 #1 November 24, 2005 http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/11/23/britain.jazeera/index.html The fact that the British are so hot and bothered about that memo seems to indicate it.
mr2mk1g 10 #2 November 24, 2005 Assuming the information in the article is correct; I have to admit one does have to wonder how two individuals can be tried for a breach of the Official Secrets Act for leaking the memo unless memo itself is in fact genuine... crozby 0 #3 November 24, 2005 Oh come on. It was pretty fucking obvious that the accidental bombing of the Al-jazeera news rooms was not really accidental. Frankly, whenever the US government of armed forces deny anything, which they *always* do as the first option, it usually turns out to be true. Remember these classics? "We didn't bomb a wedding party - it was a gathering of insurgents, even the women and 5 year olds" "We didn't wipe-out that Iraqi market - we don't know how those fragments of bomb with our markings got there" "Our guards and interrogation staff have not been torturing prisoners and buggering young Iraqis" "It was not a convoy of Afghani diplomats, honestly." Bombing news agencies. Freedom of speech. Anyone spot the discrepancy?
Adriandavies 0 #4 November 24, 2005 what do you mean 'were we going to bomb Al-Jazeera', its already been done. I seem to remember the Americans bombing the Al Jazeera office in Kabul and shooting at their journalists in Baghdad whilst the army was first moving into the city. Yes, but there's never been any real evidence that it was intentional. It's easy to claim that it was intentional but quite another thing to present evidence. Now, perhaps there is some evidence. I am working from the supposition that the USAF bombed a residential area of Kabul and hit one house and that happended to be home to the Al Jazeera bureau. It certainly seemed suspicous at the time although as you say there is no evidence to directly support my theory.

mr2mk1g 10 #8 November 25, 2005 Just to update you on this; it looks as though there is a motion before the House of Commons which will formally demand that No. 10 publish the record of the conversation in question. The contention is that it is not being withheld for national security reasons but to save political embarrassment.
