mirage62 0 #1 November 23, 2005 During the recent hysteria about gas prices I wondered if gas would get back down below $1.99. I believe many predicted gas would stay above $3.00. Certainly the idea that it would fall below $2.00 would have been mocked by some. I believe that we will see gas at $1.85 within 8 months. Any takers? For what it's worth I wish we would keep acting like it was $5.00 a gallon. It's the only way we will keep working to get off being oil dependant. It's now at $2.04 across the street. But I live in Georgia.Kevin Keenan is my hero, a double FUP, he does so much with so little

BIGUN 1,486 #3 November 23, 2005 I think the gas companies determine their declining price point based on the decibel meter. Punch it up high, wait for the screaming to ensue, then gently lower it down till the decibel level is acceptable. Ever notice that when this happens, it never goes back to the price we had the year before? Please don't flame me, I'm just making a funny and don't need the "demand-related" class.Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard. Look...something shiny, i'm a consumer with the memory of a goldfish Don't bet on SUV sales being linked to gas prices! Look at the UK, we're at $7 per US Gallon ($1.70/litre) and there's no shortage of SUVs being sold. If someone's dozy enough to buy what amounts to a Barbie-Jeep on steroids, don't expect some sensible consideration like gas prices to deter them! Mike. ReBirth 0 #5 November 23, 2005 Yeah, but you guys don't actually have to drive them anywhere. You just get them to show off to neighbors while parked. We actually have to travel some distance between points There actually is a short term direct correlation between gas prices and SUV sales here in the states. However if gas climbed and stayed at a higher price, I'm sure SUV sales would recover to pre-price-climb rates.
AndyMan 7 #6 November 23, 2005 Quote I believe that we will see gas at $1.85 within 8 months. Any takers? Within 8 monthes? Definately. In 8 monthes? Definately not. Remember that gas prices are cyclical. Every year they peak in the summer and bottom out in the winter. Right now, with $2.15ish prices, prices are at about the peak summer prices of 2004. Prices are currently trending down, but they will start trending back up towards springtime, and will peak again in the summer - probably near $3.00/gallon. Next summers prices will be similar to the prices this summer, before the huricanes. I predict next summer will infact be higher than this summer - before the huricanes. To answer your question, yes - I think we'll see $1.85 prices in late winter. Those will still be record high prices for that time of year, so we shouldn't celebrate too loudly. Shortly after prices will start to pick back up as the driving season starts up again. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
kelpdiver 2 #7 November 23, 2005 moreover, how much of this rapid drop we've seen this month had to do with the Congressional hearings to consider applying a windfalls tax on the industry? For once the artificial price manipulations favor us, but I wouldn't bet on that continuing.

AndyMan 7 #9 November 23, 2005 Quotemoreover, how much of this rapid drop we've seen this month had to do with the Congressional hearings to consider applying a windfalls tax on the industry? Doubtful. The decline in crude oil prices have been pretty consistent since refinderies started coming back online. The oil and gas industry continues to show signs of a healthy, effective market. The people I've met in the petroleum industry are not nearly smart enough to get away with the kind of price manipulation that people keep acusing them of. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. Gravitymaster 0 #10 November 23, 2005 QuoteI paid $1.86 Tuesday We are paying $1.89 at a few stations for regular and $2.19 at the same ones for premium. Most are still slightly above $2.00 for reg, though. Demand has dropped about 8% since Katrina. Edited to add: http://www.gaspricewatch.com/new/ If you are interested in getting the lowest price.
