j0nes 0 #1 November 9, 2005 The groups rioting in France are typically citizens who are not accepted by the national majority (alientated because they are immigrants or children of immigrants), unemployed, and young. The fact that their muslim is beside the point. Do we have a group(s) of people in the USA that is disaffected, largely unemployed and marginalized by the general population? If the answer is yes, than french riots could happen here.
mr2mk1g 10 #2 November 9, 2005 They did: 1992, LA: A bunch of poor, unemployed black people riot after police beat the crap out of a black guy. 2005, Paris: A bunch of poor, unemployed black people riot after police chase two kids into an electricity sub-station where they fry as they burn to death. You're right that the religion of the majority of the rioters is immaterial (note not all either set of rioters are even the same religion). It's only retards and racist newspapers pushing an agenda who are suggesting otherwise.

ReBirth 0 #6 November 9, 2005 They have happened...the Rodney King riots were sparked by a jury verdict but the real motivation behind the spread of it was poverty, and marginalization. Remember...they were riots in more than a dozen cities, not just LA. They will probably happen again given the right spark. edit - damn you MR2 and rasmack
Channman 2 #7 November 9, 2005 >...police chase two kids into an electricity sub-station where they fry as they burn to death. Did the police chase them there or did they hide there from the police after trying to steel. The tragic accident was due to placing themselves in a very dangerous place. Day (13), and the rioters are giving French citizens more reasons not to want to employ them.

ReBirth 0 #9 November 9, 2005 Quotethe riots weren't the act of thugs, but rather symptomatic of much deeper problems: the high jobless rate in the inner city, poor housing, bad schools. Although the problems were clearly pointed out in the report, no great effort was made to address them, or to rebuild what had been destroyed in the riots. 40 years later, and still no great effort has been made. Darius11 12 #10 November 9, 2005 Crime breeds from mainly two sources. 1. Poverty 2. Greed. Where ever you have desperation there is a chance for violence. It can happen anywhere. However the standard of living in the US is very high. We have people in this country that consider them selves poor, but have a car, can afford rent, can afford to eat it is simply not like that in many parts of the world. I think what triggers a lot of people to resort to violence is the difference between the poorest and the richest. We have people who work and work hard to make 11K a year and we have people who spend that on a set of rims.I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain

ReBirth 0 #12 November 9, 2005 QuoteWe have people in this country that consider them selves poor, but have a car, can afford rent, can afford to eat it is simply not like that in many parts of the world. It's simply not like that in the US either. Yes, there are the "poor me" people that have a home, a car, and health insurance. But the bigger issue is that 12.7% of this nation is below the poverty line. And the poverty line is ridiculously low. Poverty Line Family size Total Income 1................9,570 2...............12,830 3...............16,090 4...............19,350 That's one out of every 8 people in this country. rasmack 0 #13 November 9, 2005 QuoteHowever the standard of living in the US is very high... Depends who you compare with. I am not sure a comparison with France (or most EU countries for that matter) would be flattering. What I notice in particular is the difference in casualties. 50-60 people were killed in LA. One person has been killed so far in France (plus of course the two kids who got fried)HF #682, Team Dirty Sanchez #227 “I simply hate, detest, loathe, despise, and abhor redundancy.” - Not quite Oscar Wilde... j0nes 0 #14 November 9, 2005 I'm glad you all (well, most of you) caught the point, they could happen again...right? conditions are pretty much the same from day to day why aren't people rioting now (in the U.S.)? does it take a single incident to touch something off?
ReBirth 0 #15 November 9, 2005 Quotedoes it take a single incident to touch something off? As in most things, it usually takes a chain of events. Just like a skydiving incident. Several links in the chain toward all out race riots in the US have existed for a long time. Hopefully somehow we can destroy some of those links before it's too late.
