I know in Pennsylvania they've had to increase it during the 90s due to the exploding deer population. (exploding deer...hmmm must be Al Quaeda suicide bombers ) Since it is really the number of does, not bucks, that control the population numbers. We've got deer all over the Maryland suburbs. In the parks where the grass is covered with deer turds,as well as right here on the Fort Detrick campus. And at the National Insitute of Standards & Technology in Gaithersburg, where you get herds of them crossing the road on your way to work. One morning while I was jogging a herd of about a dozen deer STAMPEDED. I heard them coming before I saw them (there were hills & trees & bushes in the way) so I couldn't tell what direction they were coming from. I started to climb the nearest tree, but fortunately when they arrived they ran up against a corner of a chain link fence. I don't know what had spooked them, but it scared the bejesus out of me.
