It's all the rage. For some reason, it takes a public announcement of preference to 'stop pretending you're something you're not.' I guess hetero is the default assumption until confirmed otherwise.

...and this is new to you? Trek fans have known it all along.

I think the biggest issue that Takei is going to find out about is that nobody really cares. George has always been a big sweetheart, and is a genuinely warm and nice guy.
