Are we too sensitive?

While everyone readily accepts that evolution has turned out blacks with a genetic proclivity to contract sickle cell and Jews of European heritage who are 100 times more likely than other populations to be afflicted with the degenerative mental disease Tay-Sachs, it is widely perceived as racist to suggest that blacks of West African ancestry have evolved into the world's best sprinters, Asians among the best divers, East Africans the premier distance runners, and whites the top weightlifters.

Yet the science is quite clear and the empirical evidence consistent and overwhelming. A look at the ancestry (or home country) of runners holding the top 100 times in eight distances, from the 100 meters to the marathon, makes it clear that African domination is deep as well as broad:

Blacks who trace their ancestry to West Africa, including African Americans, hold more than 95 percent of the top times in sprinting;

Whites are virtually absent from the top ranks of sprinting; though whites have traditionally done well in the longer endurance races, particularly the marathon, their ranks have thinned in recent years;

Athletes from one country, Kenya, make up more than one-third of top times in middle and long distance races; including top performances by other

East Africans (most from Ethiopia), that domination swells to almost 50 percent.

North Africans do well at middle distances;

Mexicans (Native Americans), are strongest at the longest races, 10,000 meters and the marathon;

East Asians are competitive only at the event requiring the most endurance, the marathon, and at ultra-marathons.

Let me just say that again, that's Blacks who trace their ancestry to West Africa, including African Americans, hold more than 95 percent of the top times in sprinting.

Is this guy a racist too?

This is complete horseshit.....This coach said something completely true and something that should be taken as a compliment as opposed to a racial slur. Why is it wrong to point out different traits of sexes or races???

Definition: rac·ism
A belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.

First, he is crediting blacks with being superior in speed - that's a positive compliment, not a negative comment. They should be proud of what he said, rather than condemning him.

Second, blacks make up 78% of the NBA and 70% of the NFL. Since professional coaches hire the best athletes they can find, that would seem to support what this news-story coach is saying.
You can argue nature vs. nurture, but the fact is, most pro basketball players are black. They're good at it. Likewise, most pro hockey players are white. Again, that may be a social thing rather than genetics. But it's what they practice, and it's a fact.

If whites are equal in ability to blacks in basketball and football, then there is gross reverse-racism going on in the recruiting process. Shall we force professional sports teams to hire more whites?

Next, he's not saying that blacks are superior to whites as a race, nor vice versa - he's only talking about a single athletic trait.

There are lots of differences between different groups of people. Men are different from women. Whites, Blacks, Asians, etc. have different traits. People from different countries are not all the same. Some are more susceptible to certain diseases than others. Some are better at certain things than others. It should not be considered "racism" to talk about those differences.

Yes, society is too sensitive. You can't even compliment someone's ethnicity any more, without them taking offense. Should we not compliment Italians for making good spaghetti sauce, because they might consider that "racism"?

A little more than an anecdotal example. How about some direct correlation.

Well here is a little fuel to add to the fire..and a little more evidence. According to a Harvard study that lasted over ten years, a DIRECT coorelation between races was found. FOr instance, speed, agility and general athletic ability is noted in person with african decents. The theory to this is due to the history of the people. Living in the jungles, the native people needed to chase their food over long distances and therefore became efficent and tactful runners and athletes. On the other hand, after The Great Wall was erected, Chinese decendents were olny allowed to stay within the small confindes of their homes. Therefore, according to the study, Asian decendents are found to have higher cognitive skills than others. Finally, European decendents are crafty in the way they are able to adapt new techniques nad ideas into society. While not as smart cognitively as Asians or as fast as African's, Anglo's quickly adapt to their surrounds faster and easier. We all have our good and bad. But on GENERAL terms (we are talking generally here..there are exceptions to all rules, but GENERALLY speaking) each "decent" has its good and bad sides. It was a very interesting read. You should check it out..the book is called "The Bell Curve" by Richard J. Herrnstein and Charles Murray. It may open your eyes to a lot more than racial issues. Good luck.

...Happiness is just a drool away....mmmmm....

Stereotypes exist for a reason, and you are not 'racist' if you stereotype people.

Teenage Male drivers car insurance is sky high. For all of them. Because insurance companies stereotype. Is it fair for the exceptions that dont hot rod? Certainly not, but that is the way it is and it is universally accepted.
